If so, then we might have the perfect opportunity for you! Flour Bakery + Cafe is searching for a Kitchen Manager in training for our growing team of leaders!

The KMIT role is a structured management-in-training position that builds on previous experiences and prepares someone to fully step into the KM role at Flour. Upon successful completion of this role in approximately 8-12 months (based on assessments), you will have the opportunity to be one of our bakery leaders - our primary goal of this program is to develop future KMs and Flour leaders.

The KMIT will report to the KM in their bakery location as well as the culinary director and culinary specialist. The objective of the KMIT is to learn, grow, and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to take on a Kitchen Manager role when available. While in this training role, they will strive to gain competency in managing the Flour kitchen, food, BOH team, produce superior food and work hand-in-hand with the FOH Manager in managing their bakery under the Flour capacity in upholding the Flour missions. Success in the KMIT role includes gaining competency with incredible attention to the product, the BOH kitchen working environment, looking at the big picture view of the bakery while developing team members by providing on-going coaching and training in order to ensure high performance and effective succession plan.

Day-to-Day Performance Expectations:
  • Attend bi-weekly manager meetings
  • Weekly meetings to discuss "Manager In Training" readings with assigned trainer
  • Execute prep lists for savory and pastry items as written by the kitchen manager or manager . Note the order in which tasks are to be completed.
  • Provide support for coworkers in order to ensure prep is being done efficiently.
  • Follow all recipes and techniques in food preparation.
  • Be another set of eyes on product/Mom test
  • Provide constructive feedback as needed
  • Handle food and clean stations per standard sanitation procedures.
  • Assist with kitchen upkeep and deep cleaning tasks when production list is complete
  • Assist with checking in ordering from BK
  • Help maintain an orderly and clean kitchen
  • Check-in each day when you arrive and leave with the FOH manager or Kitchen Manager
  • Plan any and all catering and special orders with FOH manager or Kitchen Manager
  • Assist in placing BK orders through Flexi
  • Assist in placing vendor orders
  • Assist in Inventorying product to meet all BOH food pars
  • Help ensure stewards have a plan for the day and night


After 6 months in this role your training and responsibilities will extend to:
  • Internal and external ordering and updating of par sheets for both savory and pastry.
  • Execute monthly/holiday pastry specials for your specific location
  • Be vigilant with product quality; taste three things daily; take note of anything that is not normal looking, constantly be looking at what's on display - play Nancy Drew!
  • Work with the culinary team to train your judgment to align with Flour's Mom Test
  • Support the sandwich and steward staff in their work; correct issues, help make smooth transitions with changes, jump in to help manage workload, maintain a calm and composed demeanor regardless of whatever is going on
  • Play an active and engaged role on sandwich stations and with our pastries, assuring our entire menu is being prepared properly and getting to our guests in a timely manner.
  • Constantly have eyes on our food ensuring standards are maintained. Giving feedback to BK on food quality both in general and upon receiving/delivery.
  • food inventory- be able to execute product inventory regularly on your own with oversight from the KM
  • Train new staff on product, procedures, the way we do things at Flour and educate staff in use of any new or unfamiliar ingredients
  • Order responsibly from both vendors and Big Kitchen (BK) using either Flexi or Crunchtime
  • Awareness and execution of catering orders and managing the product to fill orders in a timely fashion.

Skills for Qualification:
  • Demonstrate an active passion for Flour and our mission
  • Eager to learn
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
  • Open availability to work, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Professional kitchen experience required
  • Previous leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Great sense of urgency and hospitality
  • Willingness to work as a team and help out however needed
  • Excellent attendance, reliability, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Actively problem solves using sound judgment
  • Effective time management skills
  • Keeps a calm and composed demeanor all the time
