Job description

Right of Way Agent
The Right of Way Agent coordinates and executes all activities related to acquiring land and land rights needed for the construction, operation, and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution facilities. This role combines easement acquisition, title research, damage negotiation, and detailed documentation with strong relationship-building skills to support critical engineering and infrastructure projects. The Right of Way Agent serves as a key liaison between property owners, legal teams, and project management to ensure timely and compliant project delivery.
Responsibilities
  • Acquire land, land rights, licenses, leases, permits, and other necessary documents to support the construction, operation, reconstruction, enlargement, maintenance, and removal of electric transmission and distribution facilities.
  • Conduct negotiations with landowners and their representatives to secure rights of way and other property interests required for project completion.
  • Handle complex negotiations with landowners or their designees related to the acquisition of rights for electric transmission and distribution facilities, and supervise contract agents as required.
  • Settle complicated damage claims with landowners or their designees for property damage caused during construction, reconstruction, enlargement, maintenance, or removal of transmission and distribution facilities, and supervise contract agents as required.
  • Perform title research by searching courthouse and other public records to determine current property ownership and the extent of interests in each property.
  • Prepare, maintain, and revise property owner files, right of way maps, records, drawings, exhibits, and detailed progress reports to ensure accurate project documentation.
  • Remain knowledgeable about real estate values and accepted real estate appraisal practices, and advise on establishing fair market value ranges for land and land rights acquisitions.
  • Draft and prepare documents such as rights of entry, damage claim agreements, contracts, easements, licenses, leases, permits, and options to purchase using the Transmission document database (TransROW).
  • Act as an expert witness and collaborate with legal counsel and project management in the selection of witnesses and commissioners for condemnation and other court actions.
  • Participate in and conduct public meetings and informational hearings to communicate project impacts and address stakeholder questions.
  • Maintain strong communication and relationships with internal personnel to coordinate project activities, resolve issues, and support successful project execution.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and special projects as needed to support evolving business and project requirements.

This is a Permanent position based out of New Albany, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $34.00/hr.
