Job description

Whidbey Telecom is a community-focused provider, and this role helps keep our neighbors connected by supporting underground telecom construction across the island. You’ll assist with site prep, locating utilities, assembling conduit, and pulling/placing cable or fiber, while working safely, protecting customer property, and representing Whidbey Telecom with friendly, service-minded professionalism.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY BE LIMITED TO:

  • Support underground telecom construction by setting up and prepping job sites for new installs and repairs.
  • Perform utility locating (hand-locate/verify buried utility lines) and assist with safe hand digging as needed.
  • Measure, cut, and assemble conduit (PVC/HDPE as applicable) and fittings for the job.
  • Place, secure, and maintain cable and fiber optic lines within underground conduit systems.
  • Stage and organize materials, tools, and supplies for scheduled construction jobs to keep crews productive.
  • Load/unload equipment and materials (including compactor) and help keep trucks and work areas organized.
  • Install customer premise hardware including taps and NIDs (Network Interface Devices) on buildings.
  • Pull/route fiber and cable through existing conduit using pull ropes/tape and related tools.
  • Restore and clean job sites—rake, sweep, shovel, and remove debris to leave a professional finish.
  • Maintain right-of-way areas including backfill, patching, and basic roadway/landscape restoration.
  • Install and maintain pedestals, carrier site components, and equipment at subscriber locations.
  • Operate or assist with trenching and digging equipment as trained (e.g., trenchers/compact equipment).
  • Work safely outdoors in varying weather, following job-site safety practices and traffic/right-of-way rules.
  • Collaborate as a reliable team member—communicate clearly, support crew goals, and represent Whidbey Telecom professionally.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
