Job description

About Torus
Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world's first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.
Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.
At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.
About the Role
Torus's mission depends on manufacturing systems that run securely and without interruption. Every PLC, HMI, and SCADA system on our floor is part of the infrastructure that ultimately protects communities and strengthens the grid. The Operational Technology Security Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for the security, reliability, and performance of Torus's operational technology environment, including manufacturing devices and systems such as PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and CNC equipment. This role bridges IT and OT, working across network segmentation, monitoring, and day-to-day operational support to keep production systems safe, secure, and operational. You'll report to the Director of IT and the broader IT/Security team to mature Torus's OT/IT convergence program.
Who You Are
  • You seek context before conclusions. You ask questions and understand the full picture before troubleshooting, recommending, or reacting.
  • You lead with the answer, then bring the data. You communicate clearly and directly, keeping things simple enough for any audience to act on.
  • You hold speed and quality to the same standard. You move fast without cutting corners that create rework or risk down the line.
  • You think in systems, not just tickets. You see how Information Technology, Security, and Operational Technology connect, and how your work affects the people who depend on them.
  • You build trust through transparency. You document clearly, communicate proactively, and assume positive intent when things go wrong.
Responsibilities
  • Support and maintain OT network architecture, including isolated VLANs, segmentation, and secure connectivity between IT and OT environments.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, CNC equipment, industrial control systems, and manufacturing floor devices, coordinating with plant and engineering teams to mitigate and resolve issues.
  • Partner with the IT/Security team to apply vulnerability management, asset inventory, and monitoring practices (e.g., Tenable) to OT assets, accounting for the operational sensitivities of industrial systems.
  • Implement and maintain network security controls for OT (firewalls, port security, access restrictions) in alignment with frameworks such as NIST SP 800-82, NIST CSF, NERC CIP, ISA/IEC 62443.
  • Support incident response and troubleshooting for OT-related security events, escalating and coordinating with IT/Security leadership as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of OT network topology, device inventory, and configuration changes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and facilities teams to plan and execute changes to OT systems with minimal production disruption.
  • Assist in evaluating and deploying OT security tooling (e.g., Dragos, Tenable.ot) and contribute to build-out of OT monitoring capability.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical OT/production issues as needed.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Experience
  • 3-5+ years of proven experience in industrial networking, OT/ICS environments, or a closely related IT infrastructure role.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with industrial control systems (PLC programming, SCADA, HMI configuration).
  • Working knowledge of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, OPC-UA).
  • Understanding of OT network architecture and segmentation principles (Purdue Model)
  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals: VLANs, segmentation, firewalls, and switching (UniFi, Meraki, or similar).
  • Familiarity with OT security frameworks and standards (NIST SP 800-82, NIST CSF, NERC CIP, ISA/IEC 62443).
  • Ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment and communicate effectively with both IT and plant floor personnel.
  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Industrial Automation, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with major automation platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, Schneider)
  • Experience with OT-specific security or monitoring tools (Dragos, Tenable.ot, Claroty, or similar).
  • Exposure to vulnerability management programs and applying them to OT/ICS assets.
  • Experience supporting SOC 2, NERC CIP, or similar compliance requirements as they extend to OT environments.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GICSP, ISA/IEC 62443) a plus.
