Job description

TITLE: Fitness & Wellness Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Fitness & Wellness within Community Life

REPORT TO: Fitness & Wellness Director

SCHEDULE: M-F between the hours of 7:30-4


PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Fitness & Wellness Director, the FWC coordinates and administers Fitness & Wellness/Center programs and services, including functional assessments (pre and post), land and aqua classes, one-on-one orientations, individual and small group personal training, equipment instruction and other Fitness & Wellness programs to beginning exercisers, seniors, the Seabury community and others. Develop and maintains appropriate data entry, filing and documentation. Assist in the development of reports and other documentation for the Fitness & Wellness department. Help conducts research and assist in preparing presentations, analyses, community needs related to Fitness & Wellness programming. Coordinate internal and public events related to the Fitness & Wellness Center. Must stay current on latest research and trends in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or directly related field and equivalent certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NASM) Must possess a valid CPR, First Aid and AED certification.

EXPERIENCE:

At least 2 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Experience working with the senior population preferred.

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

Ability to read, speak and understand the English language clearly.

Ability to develop and implement safe, effective fitness and wellness programs.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Excellent computer skills with various programs including but not limited to BSDI, MS office, and the internet.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Knowledge in creating marketing materials for the Fitness & Wellness Center including but not limited to posters, signs, brochures, newsletters, invitations, and cards.

Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce the Fitness and Wellness Center Policies and Procedures and live up to Seabury’s 6 Standards of Service.

Ability to organize, implement and host internal and public events related to the Fitness & Wellness Center.

Must be guest-service oriented and able to work effectively under pressure.

Ability to provide training and instruction of fitness to others.

Ability to work as a team player.

Ability to create enthusiasm, motivation and a positive atmosphere.

Knowledge of medical emergency procedures.

Comprehensive knowledge of clinical exercise and field fitness testing that includes instruction principles, methods, procedures and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plans, develops, organizes, and delivers, specified fitness instruction programs and social/recreational wellness programs, as appropriate to the overall objective of the Seabury Fitness & Wellness Center.

Serves as a source of advice and support for residents and staff in meeting specific fitness and wellness needs; establishing and achieving fitness goals and objectives.

Administer fitness evaluations, re-evaluations, exercise program orientations, and fitness programming, including blood pressure and body composition readings.

Provide on-going communication and guidance to residents and staff on the proper use of exercise equipment.

Provide appropriate music for classes.

Refer, organize and develop projects with other Seabury staff including but not limited to the health center, physical therapy, recreation therapy, massage therapy, dietician, esthetician, etc.

Develop and instruct various group exercise classes and other fitness and wellness services.

Maintains currency of certifications and related training as appropriate.

General maintenance of facility and equipment, ensuring proper use and care.

Promote continuous improvement of fitness and wellness throughout the community.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Fitness & Wellness Director and Assistant Director.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as assigned specific to job responsibilities.

RELATES TO: Residents, members, physicians, staff, families, community members and visitors.
