The Vice President, Strategy is responsible for supporting the development and execution of HMH strategies- including growth, positioning and implementation of strategy across the network hospitals, medical groups and external groups served in HMH's markets. The VP will manage strategic planning engagements with a focus on retail strategy development and organize and oversee same site growth through acquisition of new patients, physician engagement, clinical program development and expansion. The VP will also monitor the regional competitive environment and co-develop and report on local market metrics and targets for growth, strategic positioning and physician alignment and recruitment. The position will report to the Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, and collaborate with hospital presidents and key leadership, physician enterprise executives and HMH joint venture partners.


A day in the life of a Vice President, Strategy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Responsible for supporting the development of overall strategy, including a significant role in HMH market and facility based strategic planning.
  • Responsible for leading key work streams of the overall strategic and business planning processes and developing and overseeing systems/reporting/processes that advance optimal use of analytical resources to inform strategy and key business decisions.
  • Review strategic initiatives and service line development strategies, working with Finance to leverage financial analysis and decision support metrics.
  • Manage strategic planning engagements with a focus on retail strategy development.
  • Alignment of Hospital strategic planning processes with system-wide strategic planning processes.
  • Support ambulatory strategy formulation and organize ambulatory development implementation initiatives across HMH hospital/Hub regions.
  • Organization and alignment of strategy/ BD initiatives (ambulatory, Network, Physician Enterprise).
  • Co-develops and reports on local market metrics and targets for growth, strategic positioning and physician alignment-recruitment.
  • Monitoring local Region competitive environment, including messaging and co-developing competitive positioning, market conditions, competitor actions, pace of change and local trend analysis.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support select strategy staff/associates on the strategic planning team.
  • Essential capabilities include: the ability to develop and lead teams, analyze complex situations and information, communicate effectively, manage diverse constituencies, provide strategic leadership, effectively collaborate with support staff and physicians is critical to successful execution in this role.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master's degree.
  • 7-10 years of health care industry experience or equivalent strategy work in other HC sectors or industries.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Project management experience.
  • Hospital affiliation/partnership integration experience.
  • Experience working with medical staff and hospital leadership.
  • Management experience.
  • Budget experience.
