Position Overview
The Viticulture Technician supports the execution of high-quality vineyard operations in premium wine grape vineyards. Working under the direction of the Viticulture Lead, this role focuses on precision, consistency, and craftsmanship in vineyard tasks that directly influence vine balance, fruit quality, and harvest outcomes. The position is designed as a training and development role, providing hands-on exposure to best-in-class viticulture practices with a clear pathway toward advanced technical and leadership positions.
Core Responsibilities
Viticulture Technicians are responsible for executing vineyard tasks with accuracy and attention to quality, including:
Spur pruning and spur selection under guidance
Sucker removal, shoot thinning, and early canopy establishment
Canopy management activities including shoot positioning, tucking, and selective leaf removal
Cluster thinning and harvest support
Vineyard sanitation and in-row weed management
Irrigation line inspections, basic troubleshooting, and reporting issues to the Viticulture Lead
Equipment care, hand tool maintenance, and safe operation practices
Adherence to block-specific instructions, vineyard timelines, and quality standards
Training & Skill Development
This role offers structured, on-the-job training aligned with Viticulture Lead competencies, including:
Understanding vineyard phenology and seasonal priorities
Learning crop load balance and quality-driven canopy management
Exposure to irrigation principles and vineyard infrastructure
Development of efficiency, accuracy, and task accountability
Preparation for advancement into Senior Technician or Viticulture Lead roles
Performance Expectations (30-Day Probation)
Successful completion of the probationary period requires demonstration of:
Reliability, punctuality, and professional conduct
Ability to follow vineyard instructions and standards consistently
Safe and efficient execution of vineyard tasks
Positive engagement with training and feedback
Upon successful completion, hourly pay increases to $22/hour.
Qualifications
0โ2 years of vineyard, agricultural, or outdoor work experience
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain
Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks including lifting, bending, and standing
Attention to detail and respect for vineyard quality standards
Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
