Job Description

Located in Santa Rita Hills, Sea Smoke is an estate winery renowned for producing world‑class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Founded in 1999, the winery is known for its dramatic hillside vineyards, meticulous farming, and unwavering commitment to quality. Sea Smoke blends tradition with innovation, fostering a collaborative, hands-on culture dedicated to expressing the unique character of its site while setting a benchmark for excellence in California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Position Summary 

Under the direction of the Director of Vineyard and Grower Relations Operations, obtain grape samples from estate and outside grower’s vineyards. Processes grape samples and analyzes them for basic chemistries. This is a temporary position - Mid July - End of September

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • This position is responsible for following established sampling and processing procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Must know/learn location of vineyard sample blocks and independently schedule own route from a daily assignment list. 
  • Must note and advise grape management/winemaking staff of unusual vineyard conditions. 
  • May include recordkeeping/reporting. 
  • Other activities assigned by the Grower Relations Director. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required 

  • High school education/viticulture coursework preferred.
  • Ability to do basic math and read/follow a map.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills; able to keep neat and accurate records. Must have a valid Driver’s License and a clean DMV record.
  • Previous viticulture experience/familiarity with vineyard environment highly desirable. 

Physical Requirements/Working Environment 

  • Ability to work well outdoors. Requires walking uphill and downhill on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb stairs and lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including overtime as requested in order to accommodate the needs of the Harvest operations. 5-6 days a week from approximately July through September.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting.

  • Is exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals 
  • Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic

The salary range for this role is: $20.00/an hr - $25.00/an hr.

Candidates 21 years of age or older are highly preferred. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and work on a computer for extended periods. Lifting may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
