Job description

The Vineyard Technician/Intern supports day-to-day vineyard and winery operations with a focus on hands-on field work and practical skill development. Responsibilities may include vine suckering, tying, pruning, shoot and crop thinning, planting, and general trellis installation and maintenance. The role also involves mowing and light equipment operation, with occasional assistance in the winery cellar during harvest and other peak production periods. This position is well suited for an individual seeking practical experience in viticulture and small-scale winery operations.


·         Viticulture

o   Vine planting & grow tube installation & removal

o   De-suckering

o   Vine training

o   Shoot positioning

o   Leaf Pulling

o   Hedging

o   Cluster thinning

o   Disease/pest scouting

o   Data collection & entry

o   Irrigation/watering

o   Replacement vine nursery care

o   Potential for harvest; dependent on weather/season

o   Potential for post-harvest winemaking operations (crushing, pressing, fermentation); dependent on weather/season

·         Property Maintenance

o   Mowing/trimming

o   Pulling weeds

o   Erosion control

o   Practice quality land husbandry

o   Care of landscaping, entry gate, & perimeter fence

o   Entry level familiarization & light use of heavy equipment & vineyard specific implements

o   Operation of ATV’s & UTV’s

o   Reporting & entry of machine repair & maintenance

o   Use a wide variety of hand & power tools

o   Use automated hand tools to complete vineyard specific tasks

o   Trouble shoot & correctly resolve minor tool/equipment malfunctions

o   Keep all tools, toolboxes, & workspaces clean, safe, & in working order

 ·         General

o   Adherent to safety guidelines & protocols

o   Adhere to strict security & NDA guidelines & protocols

o   Work safely around agricultural chemicals & adhere to REI’s & PHI’s

o   Sit, squat, stand, kneel repetitively & for long periods of time

o   Sensibly cope with and be prepared for all kinds of weather: rain, wind, heat, humidity, etc.

o   Ability to lift 50 lbs.

o   Conduct yourself in a safe & sensible manner

o   Other responsibilities as delegated by management
