What does a Viticulture Intern do?

A Viticulture Intern assists vineyard managers and staff with the care and management of grapevines. Their responsibilities may include monitoring vine health, collecting data on plant growth, helping with pest and disease control, and participating in harvest activities. Interns gain hands-on experience in vineyard operations, learning about grape biology, sustainable farming practices, and wine production processes. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in a career in viticulture or enology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Viticulture Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Viticulture Intern, you need a foundational understanding of plant biology, vineyard management, and basic agricultural practices, often supported by coursework in viticulture or related fields. Familiarity with vineyard equipment, field data collection tools, and software for tracking grape development is typically required. Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in outdoor environments make candidates stand out. These skills ensure accurate vineyard monitoring, effective teamwork, and contribute to the production of high-quality grapes essential for winemaking.

What types of hands-on experience can I expect as a Viticulture Intern?
