Syrah information

What are the typical responsibilities of a Syrah winemaker during the harvest season?

During the harvest season, a Syrah winemaker is closely involved in monitoring grape ripeness, coordinating picking schedules, and overseeing the transportation of grapes to the winery. They manage the fermentation process, monitor temperature and sugar levels, and make key decisions regarding maceration and pressing to highlight Syrah's unique characteristics. Collaboration with viticulturists, cellar staff, and sometimes lab technicians is essential to ensure quality at every stage. Attention to detail and adaptability are crucial, as harvest conditions can change rapidly.

What is a Syrah?

Syrah is a dark-skinned grape variety primarily used to produce red wine. Known for its deep color, full body, and flavors of dark fruit, pepper, and spice, Syrah is grown in wine regions around the world, most notably in the Rhône Valley of France and in Australia (where it is called Shiraz). The wines made from Syrah grapes can range from medium to very robust in structure and can age well over time. Syrah is popular among winemakers and wine enthusiasts for its versatility and bold flavors.
