Job Description
The Virtual Propulsion Engineer (VPE) will be responsible for leading program execution and capability development initiatives related to gearbox design, analysis, and product development for automotive applications. This role will collaborate cross-functionally to drive technical excellence, innovation, and delivery of high-performance gear solutions aligned with propulsion system requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
Led finite element analysis of structural components and systems, developing meshes, defining loads and boundary conditions, and interpreting stress, displacement, and durability results to guide design decisions.
Experience performing structural, fatigue, durability, and stiffness analysis for propulsion or rotating components.
Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, structural behavior, fatigue, and failure modes.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field).
Minimum 5 years of experience in gearbox design and analysis.
Proficiency with gearbox CAE tools such as MASTA/Romax, Abaqus, and Trans3D
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop gear systems for propulsion products including drive units, transmissions, and hybrid drive systems.
Perform gearbox analysis for durability, efficiency, and NVH.
Develop and enhance CAE capabilities for gearbox components and subsystems, including gears, shafts, park systems, and other.
Support product development from early concept through validation and production execution.
Communicate technical findings effectively to internal and external stakeholders using appropriate media.
Ensure timely delivery of design solutions that meet quality, cost, and program milestones.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams for integrated design, problem-solving, and system optimization.
Lead and participate in benchmarking activities for gearbox products and virtual engineering tools.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
5+ years of experience in gearbox design and analysis for automotive applications.
Familiarity with vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing.
Experience with structural fatigue CAE tools such as FE-safe and nCode.
Knowledge of optimization tools like Hyperstudy.
Experience with test-to-model correlation.
Exposure to AI/ML tools for engineering applications.
Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD modeling.
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with coursework in structural FEA.
