Description
The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Programming Manager to join the Youth Services and Programming team. This position reports to the Youth Services and Programming Director. The Programming Manager will develop a comprehensive, system-wide programming plan for all ages. The ideal candidate will cultivate relationships with community organizations in order to provide relevant, responsive, timely programming on emerging issues, needs and interests for our patrons. Essential Job Duties
-Directly hires, manages, evaluates, and schedules the Programming Assistant. Communicates with the Youth Services Director on staffing issues.
-Uses Library's Mission Statement, Strategic Plan and Executive Director's Work Program to develop a comprehensive programming plan.
-Works collaboratively to provide strategic direction for programming opportunities.
-Manages and evaluates virtual programming.
-Coordinates systemwide large scale initiatives related to programming.
-Vets contractors and outside presenters for in-person, recorded, and live virtual programs.
-Identifies and analyzes emerging community issues, needs, and interests to determine programming direction. Cultivates partnerships with cultural, educational and strategic partners, and other community organizations that enhance programming.
-Identifies and evaluates programming statistics and outcomes, using collected information to guide programming direction.
-Fosters positive working relationships with Library Managers and presenters regarding coordination of programs and room setups.
-Works with Development department to pursue external funding opportunities to enable sustainable expansion of educational, community and cultural events, and other programs. Responsible for managing sponsored arts/cultural experiences in the Eichelberger Forum, Bassani Theater, and additional spaces as needed.
-Works with Audio-Visual Systems Manager to ensure audio-visual and technology needs for in-person and virtual programming are fully supported.
-Prepares programming budget in collaboration with the Youth Services and Programming Director. Submits reports as requested.
Requirements
Job Qualifications
-Master's degree in Library and Information Science preferred, minimum of three to five years of increasingly responsible experience at a professional level, and management experience preferred.
-Ability to maintain effective relationships with community officials, leaders, organizations, the public and the staff.
-Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patrons, and members of the community individually and in a group setting.
-Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/or challenging situations.
-Ability to plan, schedule and oversee large scale programs.
-Knowledge and appreciation of literature, periodicals, web sites, social media, and other electronic media which constitute a diverse, current and relevant collection.
-Ability to develop programs and services to meet community needs. Ability to prepare and administer budgets.
-Valid Ohio driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required.
-Schedule may include evening and Saturday hours.
Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary for this position is $67,596. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
