TENURE TRACK FACULTY - MORTUARY
MALCOLM X COLLEGE
Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Full-Time Faculty member to teach Mortuary Science. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Collaborate with the Director of Health Sciences to ensure that the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) Accreditation Standards are fully executed, documented and maintained.
  • Facilitate courses to ensure learning outcomes are fully executed, and promote students' active participation in their own learning.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Analyzes data to improve instruction and models instructional strategies which promote student achievement.
  • Provide instructional deliverables and feedback in a timely manner.
  • Provide resources and support to help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student's academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Licensed as Funeral Director and Embalmer (state of Illinois) by IDFPR.
  • Minimum 1 year of embalmer and restorative arts experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in a Funeral Home setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university, Must earn a Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university within five years of initial hiring date.
  • Must be a graduate of an ABFSE-accredited program.
  • Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or Similar Learning Management System, preferred
  • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or teaching certification is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students, required
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as a commitment to the open access mission of the community college

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000
Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education.
