Description
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West is located in Christian Co. It is a state owned cemetery maintaining nationalcemetery standards to provide dignity and respect to veterans and their families.
The Veterans Cemetery Caretaker I participates in all burial operations for veterans and eligible familymembers, as well as special events such as ceremonies for Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Wreaths Across America,etc. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining the grounds and gravesites within the veteranscemetery.
KDVA is looking for a career-minded, self- motivated and energetic Veterans Cemetery Caretaker I to work inour Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, and who possesses the skills, knowledge and desire to perform thefollowing:
  • Maintain the grounds through mowing, weeding, edging, snow removal, etc.
  • Assist with internment process.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintain the dignity and respect of veterans and their families.
The ideal candidate will work independently, yet be part of a larger team to meet our commitment to serveKentucky's Veterans.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have one year of experience in cemetery caretaking, grounds maintenance, golf course greens keeping, landscaping, farming, military service or other related experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:College courses or technical training in horticulture or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Operates power equipment and handles pesticides.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
