How close is AI to replacing instructional designers?

AI is increasingly capable of automating certain tasks in instructional design, such as content generation and data analysis, but it cannot fully replace the strategic, creative, and interpersonal skills that instructional designers bring. Human expertise remains essential for designing effective, engaging learning experiences and tailoring content to diverse audiences. As AI tools become more integrated, instructional designers will likely focus more on oversight, customization, and complex problem-solving rather than complete automation.
