Keytronic Oakdale, MN facility is seeking a Test Engineer candidate to be responsible for the design, development, documentation, implementation, and improvement of test equipment. Provides training in the use of test equipment and the understanding of customer product troubleshooting. This requires complete knowledge of all pertinent specifications and drawings, and ensuring the completion of all required items and documentation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

  • Create specifications when needed. Work with the customer on developing an acceptable test strategy as required.
  • Ensure that test equipment design is complete and on schedule to meet manufacturing needs. Will perform both hardware and software design.
  • Research new components and technologies as they become available. Will be required to use various technical equipment and tools in their work.
  • Implement any changes to test equipment due to ECOs.
  • Train and direct (non-supervisory) technical personnel in the use of equipment or new technologies. Provide manufacturing support assistance when needed.
  • Must adhere to accepted engineering practices and follow customer/company specifications.
  • Will work both independently and in groups in problem solving. Will require interfacing with numerous internal and external personnel.
  • Expected to maintain competency with regard to changes in technologies.
  • Report, to the appropriate personnel, any item which may affect product performance, reliability, schedule, cost, or employee performance. Recommend improvements and changes that may be needed.
  • Review quoted costs for test developments. If quoted costs are not appropriate, submit planned costs to the Engineering coordinator for review and approval.
  • Monitor costs associated with labor and material during test development. Ensure actual costs do not go above planned costs.
  • Must communicate all expected cost overruns to the Test Engineering Manager before actual costs are incurred.
  • Monitor production scheduling to minimize negative impacts, due to test, in the sales forecast.
  • Ability to use most electronic test and design instrumentation such as meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, development tools, etc.

SUPERVISION GIVEN/RECEIVED

Is supervised by the Test Engineering Manager and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, talk, hear, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach with hands and arms. The environment is fast-paced, time pressured, and requires accuracy. The employee will regularly multi-task between projects, be required to move throughout the office building and production floor. Effectively communicate orally and written.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering is required. Equivalent education through work and experience would be considered. One to two years experience working in a manufacturing environment as a test engineer is desired.
  • One to three years of design experience in hardware and/or software is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of computer science is required. Experienced in the use of structured programming techniques. Specific knowledge in the following languages is a plus: MSVisual BASIC with .NET framework, Python
  • NI LabView and Teststand experience strongly recommended.
  • GenRad 228x programming, Teradyne Z18xx programming a plus.
  • A working knowledge of computer architecture and microprocessor systems is required.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation is required.
  • Problem solving skills are required.
  • Knowledge of electronic manufacturing processes is strongly desired.
  • Communication skills, technical and general, in written and oral form are required.
  • Must be able to travel on short notice. Will travel to customer facilities and interface with them.
  • The position requires flexibility and self-motivation in the individual.
