Familiarity with automation tools like Selenium, JIRA, and CI/CD platforms, as well as relevant certifications such as ISTQB, is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation skills help you collaborate effectively and manage tasks independently in a remote environment. These skills ensure reliable software quality, efficient teamwork, and productivity without in-person supervision.

How does a Remote Test Engineer typically collaborate with development teams to ensure product quality?

As a Remote Test Engineer, collaboration with development teams is often facilitated through online communication tools, daily stand-ups, and shared project management platforms. Test Engineers are responsible for designing and executing test plans, reporting bugs, and providing feedback to developers in real time. Job Description
  • Test Engineer
  • Full Time
  • Onsite/Hybrid Prefered

The Test Engineer plays a critical role in software validation by designing, executing, and assisting with the maintenance of test cases to ensure the system meets defined requirements, perform as intended, and is free of defects prior to deployments. This position is responsible for software verification and validation (V&V) activities, ensuring that enterprise systems meet functional performance, and compliance requirements - particularly for U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) programs. The Test Engineer will support formal and informal testing while ensuring the collection of Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to support system certification and accreditation. The ideal candidate brings at least 2 years of relevant experience in software testing, validation and test automation within complex IT enterprise systems such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), or similar platforms in regulated settings - and possesses hands-on experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and execute test cases to validate system functionality, data integrity, and end-to-end business processes.
  • Maintain and refine automated test scripts using approved automation tools (e.g., Eggplant, Selenium, Katalon, or equivalent automated testing tools).
  • Support end-to-end validation efforts across integrated systems, including PLM, ERP, and interface/data exchange processes.
  • Support in the coordination and completion of internal testing activities (e.g., smoke, system, functional and regression testing) to ensure timely development completion and quality devlivery of software.
  • Ensure all testing activities produce appropriate OQE artifacts in support of DoD compliance requirements.
  • Identify, document, and track defects, working closely with development and functional teams to support resolution and retesting.
  • Analyze test results and provide clear, concise status updates and report to the Test Lead.
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects to align with DoD validation requirements.
  • Assist in building and expanding the regression test suite to support ongoing releases and system changes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., QA, IT, business users) to ensure alignment of testing scope, data, and expected outcomes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field required; advanced degree, relevant internship experience, or equivalent hands-on industry experience may be considered in lieu of traditional qualifications.
  • 2+ years of experience with test automation frameworks, scripting languages, and tools (e.g., Selenium, Katalon, Eggplant, Python, XML, JSON).
  • Experience with PLM platforms (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, Enovia) or other enterprise systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of test planning, execution, and documentation aligned with DoD standards.
  • Experience producing OQE artifacts to support system certification/accreditation or acceptance reviews.
  • Proficient with tools such as Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Currently holds an active U.S. national security clearance or be able to receive and maintain one.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
  • Familiarity with DoD or federal system development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of DoD software documentation standards, including SDD, IDD, SDP, ICD, and CDRL requirements.
  • Understanding of RMF, ATO, and Cybersecurity Testing/Validation (e.g., STIG compliance).
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Testing (MBT) practices.
  • Experience in Agile or hybrid Agile/Waterfall environments, and use of tools like Zephyr, TestRail, or qTest.
  • Security+ or other DoD 8570-compliant certification preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • This position is hybrid located in St. Paul, MN.
  • Fully remote candidates may be considered with increased expectation for travel.
  • This position may require the ability to travel up to 5%.

Work Environment
Hybrid work arrangements are strongly preferred for this role to support regular in-person collaboration with program and project teams. Fully remote candidates may still be considered; however, remote employees should expect increased travel requirements to support onsite team engagement. Employees may telework on designated days or as needed with supervisor approval, provided they maintain established communication expectations and effectively meet job responsibilities. Travel may be required 1-2 times per month to customer sites, subcontractor locations, and other company offices.
Clearance Requirements
Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information. Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL).
