Job description

The Delaware Solid Waste Authority is seeking to hire two (2) temporary Landfill Laborers to work with the Landfill Gas staff at our Cherry Island Landfill located in Wilmington, DE. This position has the potential of becoming a regular full time position.

Minimum Starting Payrate: $20.00 per hour.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to assist Wellfield Technician's in modifying, expanding, and repairing landfill gas system in accordance to plans or landfill needs.

Note: This is a safety sensitive position and requires drug testing as a condition of employment.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following duties:

  • Assists Wellfield Technician's with modifying landfill gas systems in accordance with system or landfill needs.
  • Assists Wellfield Technician's in expanding landfill gas system in accordance with plans.
  • Assists Wellfield Technician's in repairs landfill gas system as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: Must possess a valid drivers license. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Backhoe experience preferred. Requires First Aid and CPR certification. (Certification training provided by DSWA). Knowledge of basic mechanics. Knowledge of heavy equipment. Skill in fusing pipe. Ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements: This position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking and hearing. This position requires lifting up to 75 pounds. The position requires close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point). Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships). Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). Position risks exposure to outdoor environment, noise, extreme temperatures, vibration, moisture and/or humidity, dust, fumes, gases, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, and adverse weather conditions.EOE
