Job description

The Temporary Residential Milieu Supervisor provides temporary leadership and operational support to the residential program during a transitional period. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day residential milieu operations, including coordination of staffing patterns, crisis intervention, transportation needs, and communication with school, clinical staff, and the administrator on call.
The temporary supervisor works collaboratively with House Supervisors and the broader residential leadership team to ensure continuity of care, staff support, and program stability. This position requires frequent communication with the Assistant Director of Residential Milieu Services and managers and involves real-time decision-making in crisis situations. The temporary supervisor supports staff through consultation, modeling, and guidance, while maintaining program standards and safety. Oversight of select relief staff and other duties as assigned are included.
Education
Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
Experience
Required: Supervisory experience in a residential setting Strong skills in behavior management including the use of TCI. Ability to train and mentor direct care staff. Ability to work collaboratively with other supervisors. Understanding of staff development and adult learning.
Mental Abilities
Required: Ability to be flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced environment. Ability to respond quickly and safely to emergency situations. Capacity to manage stress, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions. Understanding child development and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain receptive to supervision and feedback.
Physical Abilities
Required: Ability to work and stand for extended periods. Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, and lift as needed. Ability to perform therapeutic physical interventions when required.
Essential functions:
Residential Milieu responsibilities to including the following:
  1. Coordinate staffing, crisis intervention and back-up support during residential shift.
  2. Work with Assistant Director Of Residential Milieu Services to assure adequate coverage on all shifts.
  3. Manage the schedule when on shift.
  4. Proactively anticipate scheduling issues and work with other supervisors to make sure that they are addressed.
  5. Coordinate crisis management while running milieu.
  6. Coordinate with other supervisors to meet any needs that arise.
  7. Coordinate transportation for all off campus trips, visits and activities.
  8. Responsible for communication with Administrator on Call and Clinical on Call while running milieu.
  9. Work with unit supervisors to increase the use of TCI philosophy and language including early intervention and de-escalation techniques in the day-to-day running of the program.
  10. In collaboration with unit supervisors, assess the structure and schedule of residential units and develop plans for supporting and training staff in planning and carrying out different parts of the schedule (meals, activities, homework, etc).
  11. In collaboration with unit supervisors, identify the strengths and areas of growth for individual staff members and teams of staff. The areas to be evaluated should include, but not be limited to individual work with children, group management techniques, understanding of child development, work with families, and teamwork.
  12. In collaboration with unit supervisor, increase the staff's understanding of and ability to develop, implement, and evaluate individual behavioral support plans for kids.
  13. In the absence of a unit supervisor, step in to support child care team as needed.
  14. Responsible for overall appearance of campus (i.e. putting away outdoor toys and supplies).
  15. Work with residential supervisory team to identify issues in need of discussion for residential meetings.
  16. Assist with communication across shifts (i.e. with day school staff, overnight supervisors, wake-ups, etc.).
  17. Participate in staff interviewing and hiring process as assigned.
  18. Assist with conducting training for residential staff as assigned.
  19. Supervise relief staff as assigned.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

Temporary Assignment Duration
This position is a temporary assignment expected to continue through June 1, 2026. The need for the temporary role will be assessed on an ongoing basis throughout this period, and the assignment may be extended if program needs to indicate continued temporary coverage is required.
Supervision to be received: Bi-weekly supervision by Assistant Director of Residential and Educational Milieu Services
Supervision to be exercised: Relief Staff and others as assigned.
