Role Description:
The Senior Technician, Telecommunication is responsible for assisting in the overall management, operational guidance, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems and equipment and services provided for DC Water. The incumbent will also be expected to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and provide expert guidance on telecommunications technologies. diagnose and resolve complex problems and billing issues with cellular phones and pagers, the Senior Technician acts as a key point of contact for technical issues, which will require maintaining an exceptionally high level of customer service for internal and external customers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintains DC Water communications systems (voice/data). Monitors and analyzes voice operation and performance using established test procedures, documents and evaluates problems and/or malfunctions, diagnoses sources of problems, implements corrective action with appropriate agency, prioritizes problems and monitors repair actions.

  • Participate in project planning and execution for new installations or upgrades of telecommunication systems.

  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to align technical requirements with project goals.

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on telecommunication systems and equipment.

  • Develops and modifies user technical training materials. Trains users in proper use of equipment and system operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of installation processes, maintenance activities, and repair logs.

  • Prepare detailed reports on system performances, including metrics and compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).

  • Coordinates the radio dispatching functionality between the Blue Plain facility and remote sites, as well as inventory and provide maintenance for specialized equipment.

  • Creates, modifies and maintains Information Technology Telecommunication's internal and external policies and procedures, forms and documents.

  • Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.

  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Telecommunication manager.

Minimum Education Requirements:High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate or an equivalent combination of education and experience consisting of an Associate's degree in Telecommunications, Business, or a related field and three (3) years of telecommunication (voice and data) experienceRequired Skills:Knowledge of Cisco, LAN and WAN environment for fiber optics connectivityStrong Knowledge of telephony systems, data networking and telecommunications regulations, transition process, including planning the floor plan design, cabling infrastructure design, service testing, service acceptance and follow-up
Ability to use telecommunication field testing equipment voltmeter, Fluke LAN and WAN diagnostic tool, OTDR fiber optic tester, etc.
