Seeking an inspiring, motivated and skilled 911 Training Specialist to join the CRESA Training Department! 

This position is responsible for supporting the comprehensive 911 Call Taking and Dispatch Operations Training program. The training specialist will provide administrative support to the 911 training program, facilitation and delivery of 911/311 Telecommunications along with Dispatch for Police and Fire training. The successful candidate will exercise considerable discretion, initiative and independence to accomplish tasks and objectives. Building strong professional relationships and ongoing trust with Dispatchers, Call Takers, Communications Training Officers (CTOs), Agency Instructors, Supervisors and other Agency staff is critical to overall program success. Work is performed under direction of the 911 Training Manager.

Must be able to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Assists in facilitating and delivering APCO, CRESA, Washington State PST Academy training programs including 911 Call Taking, Police Dispatch and Fire Dispatch
• Partner with new trainees as needed during the on-the-job training phase to coach, document, and assess progression. Serves as a certified training officer on the 911 floor on an as-needed basis. (duties are exempt from out-of-class pay)
• Helps develop and update training curricula and materials, including classroom instruction, shift training, presentations and e-learning resources.
• Assists with the development and facilitation of New Hire Training
• Assists with updating the training schedule
• Maintain accurate records and track training progress, certifications, and performance documentation
• Provide administrative support for training and accreditation programs, including but not limited to ATPA formerly APCO Project 33 Certification, CALEA, IAED, and Washington State PST.
• Assist with recruitment and interview process for 911 trainee positions.
• Ensure all training manuals, resource materials, and documentation remain current, accurate and compliant with accreditation standards and state certification requirements.

• Assist the Training Manager with conducting manual quality assurance reviews and call comparisons for new hires and trainees during on-the-job training (OJT), and probationary periods. 
• Provide information and assistance to other departments, outside agencies, and the public as necessary.
• Participate as needed during emergencies, including on the 911 floor to supplement staffing or in the emergency operations center.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with employees, user agencies, PSAP and community partners and public.
• Maintain a valid driver's license for transportation purposes regarding training and operations.
• Work is performed on-site, generally Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5pm, however must be able to supports 24/7 public safety training with flexible scheduling to include working weekends, swing shifts, and graveyard shifts when necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Job Qualifications

• Associate's degree in education, technical education or training or related field preferred
• At least two (2) years of experience in Public Safety Telecommunications role dedicated to training (e.g., Certified Training Officer, Instructor, or such equivalent)
• At least three (3) years of non-probationary experience as a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator with experience including
  • 911 Call Taking
  • Police Dispatch
  • Fire Dispatch
• Internal Candidates see below for additional minimum job qualifications:
  • Required that performance evaluations rated as "Meets Expectations" or higher for the previous three (3) years
  • Required that within the last three (3) years have not received any discipline, corrective action nor performance improvement plan.
• All candidates must possess or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire:
• National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification (for QA-focused TQAC)
• NAED EMD-Q Certification (trained by NAED to be a certified medical case reviewer) (for QA-focused TQAC)
• Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) Communications Training Officer (CTO) Certification (for training-focused TQAC)
• APCO CTO Instructor Certification (for training-focused TQAC)
• ACCESS Certification.
• Other Certifications required by statute or state.

• Must possess a valid driver license and have access to a motor vehicle (personal or agency) on an as needed daily basis.

Selection Process

• Complete full detailed application by 8/24/26.  Candidates will be notified if they are selected to proceed by 8/26/26.
• Written exam will be scheduled for qualified candidates in September and must receive 70% or higher to pass and proceed to next step
• Interview and assessment with panel will be scheduled in September 
• Agency may select candidate or have an optional final interview
