The Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), a labor organization advocating for public education since 1852, represents 178,000 members working primarily in school settings. PSEA is seeking an experienced Communications Manager for our headquarters in Harrisburg, PA to implement the Associationโs communications strategy and manage staff and resources. As a member of the Executive Directorโs management team, this role helps advance PSEAโs mission, strengthen member engagement, and shape the organizationโs public voice.
The Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of media relations, digital communications, publications, branding, crisis communications, and content development while leading a collaborative communications team. Responsibilities include developing strategic messaging; managing media, digital, and social media strategies; creating speeches, statements, and publications; advising leadership on communications matters; supporting crisis communications; managing events and branding efforts; overseeing division operations and budget functions; and collaborating with staff, affiliates, and member leaders to ensure consistent messaging.
Qualified candidates should have a bachelorโs degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field (advanced degree preferred), along with 5โ10 years of professional communications or media relations experience, including leadership experience. Experience in advocacy, nonprofit, membership, or labor organizations is preferred. Strong writing, presentation, organizational, and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to travel statewide and maintain a valid driverโs license, are required.
