Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

This role leads the development and scaling of technical documentation capabilities for custom manufacturing equipment and processes. Initially focused on hands-on content creation, the position will establish scalable, AI-enabled documentation workflows, standards, and tools, growing into broader ownership of documentation practices and strategy across engineering and manufacturing teams.

This role is accountable for:

  • Delivering high-quality, release-ready technical documentation for custom manufacturing equipment and systems
  • Establishing and scaling AI-enabled documentation workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, and development speed
  • Defining and evolving standardized documentation processes, templates, and governance models
  • Driving adoption of documentation standards and best practices across engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Building and expanding documentation capabilities over time, including tools, processes, and team structure as needed
Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and translate complex technical information into structured, user-focused documentation for manufacturing, maintenance, and operations audiences
  •  Apply AI-enabled authoring and editing tools to enhance documentation quality, consistency, and efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop, validate, and publish technical content, including installation guides, operating procedures, troubleshooting materials, and knowledge base content
  • Ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, and usability through structured review and validation with subject matter experts
  • Establish foundational documentation frameworks, including structure, content standards, and workflow approaches across projects
  • Identify opportunities to improve and scale documentation practices across projects and teams
  • Promote documentation best practices and support adoption of standardized, AI-enabled workflows
Decision-Making Authority
  • Determines approach for AI-enabled documentation tools, workflows, and content development practices
  • Establishes prioritization frameworks for documentation across projects and initiatives
  • Defines standards for documentation structure, quality, and delivery
  • Identifies and drives continuous improvement opportunities in documentation processes and tools
  • Define and evolve long-term approaches for documentation tools, workflows, and resource needs
Work Environment
  • Monday-Friday, standard business hours (8:00AM-5:00 PM)
  • Hybrid work arrangement available
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of experience in technical writing within industrial, manufacturing, engineering, or technical sales environments
  • Experience creating technical documentation for industrial equipment, manufacturing systems, or engineering processes
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, structured, user-focused documentation
  • Hands-on experience using generative AI / LLM-based tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) to support content creation, editing, or analysis
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, or technical sales teams to gather and validate source information
Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with high attention to detail
  • Experience establishing or improving documentation processes, tools, or workflows
  • Experience driving adoption of new tools, workflows, or practices within a technical organization

The range for this position is $81,999.00 - $112,749.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
