Job description

Scheduling Coordinator - Surgery

Position Scope:

The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for accurate, efficient, and timely surgery scheduling for Stillwater Medical Group surgeons. This may include multiple specialties and locations. Keeping the patient, provider and other key individuals and departments informed during the process is a customer service priority. The position ensures the pre-surgical financial/insurance requirements are completed for appropriate revenue collection. Requires coordination of all pieces in the surgery scheduling process to ensure a positive and successful outcome. This position also provides administrative support of specified Specialty Operations duties.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience required:

  • Meets one of the following:

    • Two years post-secondary education which includes course work in business operations, healthcare or customer service

    • Graduate of a technical, business or community college as a medical receptionist/secretary, medical office assistant or similar training program

    • Three years of experience as a medical receptionist, healthcare billing or coding representative, healthcare customer service position or similar experience

  • Two years customer service, medical or business office experience

  • Two years computer experience, which includes knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar programs

  • Ability to learn electronic medical record system is required. 

Experience preferred:

  • Two years working in a HealthPartners organization with experience to include any of the following: 

  • electronic medical record system

  • Working in a surgical clinic setting

  • Business Office

  • Working knowledge of insurance to include coordination of benefits, referral requirements, prior authorization process and billing processes and protocols

The skills and knowledge preferred for the position:

  • Familiarity with insurance terminology

  • Familiarity with medical coding systems (ICD10 & CPT)

  • Ability to independently solve problems 

  • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing work with multiple interruptions

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

  • Ability to be accurate and attentive to detail

  • Skilled in written and verbal interpersonal communications;

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;

  • Ability to handle routine and impromptu assignments with minimal supervision;

  • High degree of initiative along with ability to act as a team player;

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships and develop partnerships with others.

Computer proficiency:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, e-mail, calendar, and database programs required.

  • Ability to learn electronic medical record system is required.
