Job description

The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health, Life Sciences, and Education at Missouri Southern State University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in Sport and Recreation Management (tenure-track).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the fall and spring with a 4-4 teaching load. The course format can be in-person, online, or hybrid. Possible teaching assignments may include Ethics in Sport and Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, Risk Management and Legal Issues in Sport and Recreation, Sport and Recreation Event Operations, Financial Management in Sport and Recreation, Management in Sport and Recreation, Program Design in Recreation and Sport Settings, and Practicum in Sport and Recreation Management. The successful candidate is also expected to advise undergraduate and graduate students, oversee student internships (undergraduate) and capstone projects (graduate), engage in scholarly activities, and provide service to the Department, College, and University.

Qualifications Required

  • A doctoral degree in Sport Management, Recreation Management, or a related field (ABDs with the commitment to complete their doctoral degree within a year will be considered).
  • Experience teaching Sport and Recreation Management courses.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to the missions, values, and priorities described in the University, College, and Departments strategic plan.

Qualifications Preferred

  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience in online instruction.
  • Experience working and collaborating with the sport and recreation industry.
  • Experience mentoring or advising students.
  • Experience or potential to publish scholarly work.
