TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a talented Sr. Systems Administrator to join our team in Houston, Texas.
SummaryThe Senior Systems Administrator position provides day-to-day advanced technical support for existing customer installations as well as new deployments of proprietary multi-server tolling applications. This role will be responsible for working both independently and in coordination with the regional support teams to resolve issues in a timely manner. Communicating highly technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel is a key part of this role and responsibility of the Senior Systems Administrator.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversee servers, storage, networks, databases to maintain high availability and performance
  • Provides troubleshooting and repair for moderate network solutions.
  • Quickly identifies and repairs common problems.
  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies, including regular testing and recovery drills
  • Enforce security policies, configure firewalls, and apply security controls to protect systems and data
  • Monitor for vulnerabilities and implement remediation measures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Evaluates interface between users, hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall server systems.
  • Maintains servers and user accounts.
  • Enforce security policies, configure firewalls, and apply security controls to protect systems and data
  • Daily system maintenance review, such as systems log, antivirus server logs, etc.
  • Provides monitoring and reports of the operational status of LAN/WAN environment as needed.
  • Interacts with vendors.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade hardware and software, including operating systems, virtualization platforms, and database systems
  • Recommends the acquisition of new hardware and/or software as needed.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance; act on alerts to prevent outages
  • Perform capacity planning to anticipate growth and optimize resource allocation.
  • Investigate and resolve incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and document corrective actions
  • Manage service requests and meet defined service level targets.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and workflows to improve consistency and reduce manual effort
  • Lead infrastructure projects, upgrades, and migrations with minimal business impact
  • Follow approved change control processes and collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business requirements.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, runbooks, and configuration records
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior administrators to raise team capability.
  • Manage vendor relationships, renewals, and support contracts
  • Mentor other System Administrators on the team

Requirements and QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Deep expertise in Windows environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, PowerShell, and scripting
  • Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 15+ years of Systems Administrator experience
  • Advanced experience implementing Hyper-V Virtual machines in a failover cluster
  • Advanced Administration and setup of Dell Storage.
  • Must be able to work well in a stressful situation such as an entire system malfunction.
  • Advanced experience implementing and administrating Microsoft Failover Clusters (A Must)
  • Knowledge of Networking (understanding LAN/WAN, Palo Alto, Cisco products)
  • Advanced experience troubleshooting Windows Server (2008 or higher)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • HP/Dell server experience
  • Advanced experience troubleshooting Active Directory (A Must)
  • WSUS Experience
  • Microsoft System Center experience
  • SolarWinds Experience
  • CrowdStrike implementation
