Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to support a long-term DOD program focused on Navy enterprise infrastructure, systems administration, cybersecurity, vulnerability management, and automation. This position is 100% onsite in Norfolk, VA. The Junior Systems Administrator will support physical and virtual server environments, Windows/Linux operating systems, enterprise infrastructure, security compliance, system patching, and automated configuration across mission-critical Navy infrastructure.

Responsibilities of the Junior Systems Administrator include:
  • Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, operating systems, and enterprise infrastructure
  • Support Windows and Linux server environments, including system installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Monitor system health, performance, availability, and infrastructure capacity to minimize downtime
  • Apply DISA STIGs and security baselines to operating systems, applications, and infrastructure
  • Perform vulnerability scanning, analysis, patching, remediation, and mitigation using tools such as ACAS/Nessus
  • Support RMF activities and maintain systems in compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and workflows using PowerShell, Ansible, Jenkins, and similar tools
  • Automate system provisioning, configuration, deployment, and security remediation activities
  • Support enterprise backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and system restoration processes
  • Provide Tier II technical support and troubleshoot complex infrastructure and system issues
  • Maintain system configurations, topology diagrams, SOPs, technical documentation, and operational records
  • Collaborate with systems, network, cybersecurity, application, and customer teams to maintain reliable and secure infrastructure
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, modernization efforts, technical projects, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications of the Junior Systems Administrator include:
  • 1-3 years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, server administration, or enterprise IT environments
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Current DoD IAT Level II certification, such as Security+ CE, CySA+, GSEC, SSCP, or equivalent
  • Current CompTIA Network+ certification
  • Current Microsoft AZ-900 certification
  • Hands-on experience administering Windows and/or Linux server environments
  • Experience with system configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs, vulnerability management, security hardening, and DoD cybersecurity requirements
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning and remediation tools such as ACAS/Nessus
  • Experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell, Ansible, Jenkins, or similar technologies
Preferred Qualifications of the Junior Systems Administrator
  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or federal IT environments
  • Experience with Windows Server and Linux administration
  • Experience with PowerShell, Ansible, Jenkins, or configuration-management tools
  • Familiarity with RMF, DISA STIGs, ACAS, Nessus, IAVA, or other DoD cybersecurity processes
  • Experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions

  • Experience with Bitbucket, Git, or other version-control platforms
  • Experience with automated system provisioning and configuration management
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
Compensation for the Junior Systems Administrator includes:
  • Salary: $75,000-80,000 depending on experience
