Job description

Overview

VTG is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to support the implementation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mission-critical IT systems. This position requires a strong Linux background and hands‑on experience supporting servers, networks, virtualized environments, and infrastructure in challenging operational environments.

What will you do?
  • Implement, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, and support enterprise IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Manage the daily configuration and operation of Linux/UNIX and Windows systems.
  • Perform advanced Linux troubleshooting, including reviewing and tailing logs, restarting services, diagnosing system issues, and resolving performance problems.
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support, including problem identification, diagnosis, escalation, and resolution.
  • Support client/server, storage, network, mobile, and other infrastructure devices.
  • Troubleshoot system, application, hardware, and network‑related issues.
  • Configure and maintain operating systems and install/load operating system software.
  • Maintain system integrity and implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support network components and devices.
  • Support systems operating in high‑latency, low‑bandwidth, and air‑gapped environments.
  • Use SSH, SSH tunneling, and port forwarding to access and troubleshoot remote systems.
  • Support and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments.
  • Work with network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization.
  • Perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Assist users with accessing and utilizing IT systems.
  • Provide detailed analysis and feedback regarding escalated technical issues.
  • Communicate system status, outages, issues, and resolutions to agency management and internal customers.
  • Support hardware and dispatch‑related problems through final resolution.
Do you have what it takes?
  • TS/SCI with Poly required
  • 10+ years of Systems Administrator experience supporting programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
    • Five additional years of Systems Administrator experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
  • Strong hands‑on Linux/UNIX administration experience.
  • Strong Linux troubleshooting skills, including:
    • Log analysis/tailing log files
    • Service management and restarting services
    • Command‑line troubleshooting
    • System and application issue diagnosis
  • Comfortable navigating and administering systems through a Linux terminal/CLI.
  • Experience using SSH to access remote servers.
  • Experience with SSH tunneling and port forwarding.
  • Experience supporting systems in high‑latency, low‑bandwidth, and/or air‑gapped environments.
  • Basic hands‑on experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience supporting or troubleshooting network devices, including firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned tasks, and drive technical issues through resolution.

VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $100K - $150K annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
