Job description

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Business Operations Analyst. The Business Operations Analyst plays a key role in supporting rate and pricing operations, financial analysis and reporting, and process improvement initiatives that contribute to the Firm's operational efficiency, revenue growth, and profitability objectives. The successful candidate will combine analytical, operational, problem-solving, and communication skills to support attorneys, partners, and administrative teams across the Firm. This role provides exposure to rate management, pricing and profitability analysis, financial analysis, reporting, and business process improvement.
This position will reside in our Philadelphia office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.
Responsibilities include:
  • Maintain client, matter, and billing data within Elite 3E, ensuring accurate setup of rates, fee arrangements, and related financial information.
  • Establish and maintain client, matter, and timekeeper billing rates, fee arrangements, billing instructions, pricing terms, and related data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with approved client agreements.
  • Monitor and process rate adjustments related to annual rate reviews, promotions, matriculations, and other approved changes.
  • Review submissions and workflows for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Firm policies and pricing guidelines.
  • Partner with attorneys, Finance, Billing, and Operations teams to resolve rate-related issues and support a seamless client experience.
  • Support annual rate review and rate administration processes, including the Firm's Annual Rate Survey (ARS).
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and analyses using Excel, Qlik, Access, Power BI, and other reporting tools.
  • Assist with matter and client pricing analyses, profitability reviews, forecasting, and performance reporting.
  • Support client pricing reviews, alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), RFP responses, and other pricing-related initiatives.
  • Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable business insights.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and reporting for Firm leadership, practice groups, and administrative teams.
  • Participate in system enhancements, testing, process improvement initiatives, and special projects that enhance operational efficiency, reporting capabilities, and data quality.

Experience and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in business operations, finance, pricing, consulting, legal operations, financial analysis, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis.
  • Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience within a law firm or professional services organization is preferred.
