What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Retail Development, and why are they important?

To thrive in Retail Development, you need a solid understanding of market analysis, site selection, and retail operations, often supported by a degree in business, marketing, or real estate. Familiarity with CRM software, geographic information systems (GIS), and financial modeling tools is typically required. Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and project management skills set top performers apart in this field. These skills ensure successful identification and execution of new retail opportunities, driving business growth and competitive advantage.

How does a Retail Development professional typically collaborate with store managers and merchandising teams to implement new initiatives?

Retail Development professionals play a key role in bridging the gap between corporate strategy and in-store execution. They regularly collaborate with store managers to understand operational challenges and gather feedback on new concepts or layouts. Working closely with merchandising teams, they help design and roll out product displays, promotional campaigns, or store redesigns to enhance customer experience and drive sales. Effective communication and project management skills are essential, as these professionals often coordinate timelines, training, and resources across multiple stakeholders.

What is Retail Development?

Retail development involves planning, creating, and managing retail spaces or strategies to maximize sales and customer engagement. Professionals in this field work on everything from identifying locations and negotiating leases to designing store layouts and optimizing product placement. The goal is to ensure retail environments meet consumer needs and business objectives, often collaborating with marketing, merchandising, and operations teams. Retail developers may work for brands, landlords, or property developers, and are key to expanding a company's physical presence.

What jobs make 5000 a week without a degree?

In retail development, high-level positions such as regional managers or senior sales directors can earn $5,000 or more weekly, especially with extensive experience and performance-based bonuses. These roles often require strong leadership skills, industry knowledge, and sometimes certifications, but they do not always require a college degree. Compensation varies by company, location, and individual performance.

What is the difference between Retail Development vs Retail Buying?

Job description

#WeAreParamount on a mission to unleash the power of content... you in?
We've got the brands, we've got the stars, we've got the power to achieve our mission to entertain the planet - now all we're missing is... YOU! Becoming a part of Paramount means joining a team of passionate people who not only recognize the power of content but also enjoy a touch of fun and uniqueness. Together, we co-create moments that matter - both for our audiences and our employees - and aim to leave a positive mark on culture.

Overview
You are the "Digital Architect" of the Paramount ecosystem on Amazon. Your goal is to own the "Flywheel"-using Paramount's massive content library to drive traffic, which drives sales, which improves search ranking. You ensure that when a customer searches for "Star Trek" or "SpongeBob," they are met with a curated, high-conversion brand experience that seamlessly blends Paramount+ streaming, Physical Media, and Consumer Products.

Responsibilities

  • The "Digital Flywheel" Strategy

    • Lead cross-category initiatives that leverage Paramount's media milestones (theatrical/streaming) to boost retail sales

    • You ensure that a "Top Gun: Maverick" streaming peak on Prime Video channels translates into immediate "Buy Box" wins for Apparel, Home, and Toys.

  • Joint Business Planning (JBP) & Vendor Management

    • Partner with Retail Development team and Amazon Entertainment and Character team to secure "premium activations in support of key beats digital real estate"

    • You are responsible for negotiating top tier programs to secure high-impact placements like Gateway Placements, Deal of the Day (DOTD), and "New Release" category takeovers

  • Full-Funnel Advertising (Amazon Ads/DSP)

    • Strategize and execute complex campaigns using Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) and DSP

    • You develop and manage a diversified budget to target fans at every stage-from high-funnel "awareness" video ads to bottom-funnel "Sponsored Product" ads that maximize conversion

  • Cross Functional Collaboration

    • Work across internal Retail Development, category and Brand teams as well as manufacture partners and retailers to ensure support of key priorities

  • Strategic Planning

    • Build strategic marketing plans to maximize priorities incorporating relevant media mix, budget development, program development and deployment followed by ongoing measurement and adjustment based on performance

  • Brand Store & A+ Content Management

    • Own the "Paramount Brand Store." You oversee the design and optimization of sub-stores for major franchises (Yellowstone, PAW Patrol), ensuring all product detail pages (PDPs) feature Mobile-Ready Hero Images, SEO-optimized bullets, and high-quality video content

  • Omnichannel Integration (Paramount+ & Physical)

    • Work closely with the Amazon Prime Video teams to create "Watch & Shop" opportunities

    • You manage the studio's "Digital Shelf" health, monitoring OOS (Out of Stock) rates and LBB (Lost Buy Box) to ensure marketing spend isn't wasted on unavailable products

  • Data-Driven Optimization (Brand Analytics)

    • Use Amazon Brand Analytics and Vendor Central data to track shopper behavior

    • You analyze "Search Frequency Rank" and "Market Basket Analysis" to determine which franchises are trending and where to shift marketing investment in real-time

Basic Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years in retail, shopper, or channel marketing, specifically managing a high-volume, multi-category retail account

  • Deep understanding of various retail lifecycles (e.g., the fast-paced nature of Apparel vs. the seasonal peaks of Toys)

  • Proven ability to act as the "connective tissue" between internal licensing category managers and external retail merchants and marketing leads

  • Ability to think and act strategically, finding opportunities to place products in unconventional aisles to capture "cross-basket" sales

Paramount Skydance Corporation (NASDAQ: PSKY) is a leading global media and entertainment company that creates premium content and experiences for audiences worldwide.
