The Digital Technology Services (DTS) Unified Communications (UC) Engineer I is responsible for analytical tasks and activities associated with the organization's voice communication infrastructure as part of the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) UC Team. The scope of responsibility for this position includes, but is not limited to the configuration, deployment, testing, maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of telecommunications network components to provide secure, highly-available services for local and remote locations. Duties also entail quality assurance and testing of transmission mediums and infrastructure components. Performs work primarily under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

This position can require you to travel to different Hackensack Meridian Health facilities throughout the state of New Jersey. 


A day in the life of a Digital Technology Services (DTS) Unified Communications (UC) Engineer I at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Follows direction to assist with implementation and testing of new UC solutions and technologies.
  • Supports and maintains UC infrastructure including Cisco Networking components, Contact Center and VoIP technologies.
  • Work closely with HMH Team Members, DTS support teams, and vendors to resolve incidents in a timely manner.
  • Handles basic service requests and works with customers to provide training and user guides as needed.
  • Contribute to the documentation in the Knowledge Base, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), work instructions, job aids, and user guides.
  • Participate in project management activities as assigned.
  • Participate in the UC On-Call program.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other related area of study; An applicable technical certificate; Or equivalent related work experience may be accepted.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in Unified Communications/PBX user administration and data communications installation.
  • Hands-on experience and proficient with the following technologies and systems:
    • Cisco IP Phones
    • Cisco Communications Manager (CUCM)
    • Cisco Jabber
    • Cisco Unity Connection (CUC)
    • Cisco Instant Message & Presence Server (IM&P)Cisco Contact Center Express (UCCX) (CUCM integration and base configuration )
    • Cisco IOS Gateways with Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SIP/MGCP Voice Gateways
    • SIP Trunking
    • Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony
    • Cisco Mobile & Remote Access
  • Detail oriented, strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • One or more years of prior experience in IT related discipline.
  • Healthcare experience. 

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Collaboration.
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 Foundation certification.

Minimum rate of $83,782.40 Annually
