What is remote sport development?

Remote sport development refers to the process of promoting and supporting the growth of sports and athletic programs from a distance, often using digital tools and online platforms. Professionals in this field work to design training programs, provide coaching, and develop resources for athletes, coaches, and organizations who may not have direct access to in-person support. This approach is especially valuable for reaching underserved or geographically isolated communities, enabling wider participation and skill development in sports. Remote sport development can include virtual workshops, online coaching sessions, and the distribution of educational materials. The goal is to foster athletic growth and community engagement regardless of location.

How does a Remote Sport Development professional typically collaborate with coaches, athletes, and organizations from a distance?

Remote Sport Development professionals use a variety of digital tools—such as video conferencing, online training platforms, and project management software—to connect with coaches, athletes, and sports organizations. Regular virtual meetings, digital workshops, and cloud-based document sharing help ensure smooth communication and progress tracking. Building strong relationships remotely requires proactive communication and adaptability, as well as a clear understanding of each stakeholder's goals. Despite working from a distance, professionals in this role are expected to foster engagement, monitor development programs, and provide feedback to help enhance athletic performance and organizational growth.

Job description

Zotefoams plc is a world leader in cellular material technology, with facilities in Croydon, UK; Kentucky and Oklahoma, USA; Brzeg, Poland; and Jiangsu Province, China (T-FIT).
We produce lightweight foams for a wide range of markets including sports and leisure, aviation, automotive, and healthcare. Zotefoams also owns and licenses patented technology and supplies advanced insulation systems.
The Company is on a strong growth trajectory, with significant revenue and profitability increases in recent years and ambitious plans for the future.
About the Role:
This role combines strategic account management with proactive business development across the Western US, with a strong emphasis on specifying specialty materials and supporting customers through technical discussions and application requirements.
To enable effective customer coverage and reduce unnecessary long‑distance travel, we are specifically targeting candidates based in the Western US (Denver area or further West).
Reporting to the US Sales Director, you will own and grow a portfolio of established customer accounts while also identifying and converting new business opportunities within agreed market segments. Approximately 60% of the role focuses on account ownership and customer development, with around 40% dedicated to new customer acquisition and market expansion.
Location and travel
  • Home‑based in the Western US (Denver area or further West preferred)
  • Regular travel across the Western region, plus occasional travel to manufacturing sites and industry events
  • Travel requirement up to 50%

Role Responsibilities:
Account management
  • Own and develop a portfolio of key and strategic customer accounts
  • Build strong, long‑term relationships as the primary commercial contact
  • Understand customer applications and requirements, advising on the right materials and solutions
  • Lead commercial discussions covering pricing, contracts, supply and issue resolution
  • Partner closely with technical, operations and product teams to support customers and new developments
  • Track account performance and identify growth opportunities

Business development
  • Identify, qualify and pursue new business opportunities across targeted US markets
  • Take a structured, disciplined approach to new customer acquisition
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging applications
  • Generate and convert leads into sustainable long‑term revenue
  • Support customers through product development, approvals and specification processes

Sales planning and collaboration
  • Deliver sales targets aligned with agreed budgets
  • Maintain accurate pipeline management, forecasting and reporting
  • Work collaboratively across sales, technical, operations and supply chain teams
  • Act as the voice of the customer internally

What you'll need:
We are particularly interested in candidates with a polymer industry background and technical sales experience, ideally in a specification‑led environment.
Essential
  • Proven experience in a customer‑facing commercial role combining account management and new business development
  • Strong relationship‑building capability with a consultative sales approach
  • Confident negotiator with sound commercial judgement
  • Self‑starter who is organised and comfortable working autonomously
  • Willingness to travel regularly (up to 50%)

Strongly preferred
  • Experience within the polymer industry, such as specialty resins, engineered plastics, foam, sheet or moulded components
  • Background in technical or application‑driven sales rather than purely transactional sales
  • If not polymers, a strong technical sales background within B2B raw materials used in highly specialised markets
