Remote Sport Development information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Sport Development professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Sport Development professional, you need expertise in sports science, coaching principles, and program development, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with digital coaching platforms, athlete management systems, and virtual communication tools is typically required. Strong leadership, motivation, and communication skills help build rapport and effectively guide athletes or teams remotely. These competencies are crucial for successfully developing sports programs and engaging participants in a virtual environment.

How does a Remote Sport Development professional typically collaborate with coaches, athletes, and organizations from a distance?

Remote Sport Development professionals use a variety of digital tools—such as video conferencing, online training platforms, and project management software—to connect with coaches, athletes, and sports organizations. Regular virtual meetings, digital workshops, and cloud-based document sharing help ensure smooth communication and progress tracking. Building strong relationships remotely requires proactive communication and adaptability, as well as a clear understanding of each stakeholder's goals. Despite working from a distance, professionals in this role are expected to foster engagement, monitor development programs, and provide feedback to help enhance athletic performance and organizational growth.

What is remote sport development?

Remote sport development refers to the process of promoting and supporting the growth of sports and athletic programs from a distance, often using digital tools and online platforms. Professionals in this field work to design training programs, provide coaching, and develop resources for athletes, coaches, and organizations who may not have direct access to in-person support. This approach is especially valuable for reaching underserved or geographically isolated communities, enabling wider participation and skill development in sports. Remote sport development can include virtual workshops, online coaching sessions, and the distribution of educational materials. The goal is to foster athletic growth and community engagement regardless of location.

Job description

About Players Health

At Players Health, we are on a mission to create the safest and most accessible environment for an athlete to play the sports that they love. There are over 50 million youth athletes playing sports in the U.S., and they are counting on us to ensure that the environment that they are coming into not only accepts them for who they are, but fills them with encouragement, love, and inspiration.

Players Health is a VC and PE-backed, mission-driven, sports technology platform providing digital risk management services, reporting tools and insurance products to sports organizations to comply with the changing athletic environment and responsibilities.

Our Core Values

We cannot achieve our mission without having a strong culture. We believe that at the core of a strong culture is a shared set of values. The values that we hold true and look for our employees to embrace are as follows:

Lead with Mission:Our mission always comes first. If we stay on mission as an organization then we believe we will be successful in our professional and personal lives.

  • Go Beyond:We're not satisfied with just "good enough" - we go above and beyond to achieve awesome results that impress and inspire.
  • Operate like Owners:We believe in operational excellence. We take ownership of our work and approach every task with a sense of pride, responsibility, and commitment to excellence. We don't rent our roles - we own them and strive to make a lasting impact.
  • Virtue First:From the big decisions to the small details; honesty, integrity, and transparency are the bedrock of our culture and the foundation for everything we do.
  • Service:We live to serve others with humility, empathy, and kindness. We put our customers, colleagues and community first, and always strive to exceed their expectations with a smile.

About the Role

The organizations responsible for the safety of youth athletes are underserved, underinsured, and often unaware of the risks they carry. That's the market. That's the opportunity. And that's our mission. We have multiple Risk Advisor openings on our Youth & Amateur Sports team, and we are looking for people who bring deep commercial insurance knowledge, genuine relationships in the sports market, and the drive to build something real - people who see a revenue target and treat it as a floor, not a ceiling.

What sets this role apart is how we sell. Players Health advisors don't lead with policy; they lead with risk. You'll be equipped with a structured Sales Playbook, a proprietary client Risk Assessment Tool that delivers real risk visibility to prospects, and a suite of sales enablement tools - all designed to position you as a trusted Risk Advisor, not just another insurance rep. You'll be sharpening your craft continuously through weekly AI-powered pitch practice, tracking your performance against structured KPIs, and growing your knowledge through The Institutes Knowledge Group platform available to all staff.

Players Health is a high-growth company, and like any organization scaling quickly, not every process is fully systematized. But we move fast, work collaboratively, and are always improving - because showing up best for our clients depends on it. The right person for this role sees that as context, not a red flag - they bring a continuous improvement mindset, contribute to making things better, and don't wait for perfect conditions to go out and win business.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $70,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience - structured as a non-recoverable draw against commissions. The draw is not subject to repayment if commissions earned in a given period do not exceed the draw amount.
  • Commission: Competitive, uncapped commission rates. Once your earned commissions exceed the draw amount, additional commissions are paid directly to you - with no ceiling on what you can earn.
  • Remote-First: Work from anywhere in the U.S. (CT/ET time zone preferred)
  • Time Off: Flexible PTO policy, 10 company-paid holidays
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, 401k, and additional ancillary voluntary coverage options available
  • Professional Development: Access to The Institutes Knowledge Group platform and AI-Powered sales pitch practice for ongoing insurance education, credentialing, and professional development

Responsibilities (are inclusive of but not limited to)

Risk Advisory & New Business Development

  • Lead with risk - use our client Risk Assessment Platform and consultative approach to help sports organizations understand their exposure, build a best-in-class safety program, and select the right protection for their athletes and their organization
  • Prospect, source, and develop new relationships with sports organizations, clubs, leagues, associations, and governing bodies across the youth and amateur sports market
  • Maintain a strong, current understanding of the youth and amateur sports landscape - including trends, key organizations, and the evolving risk environment athletes and administrators face
  • Build and manage a strong, active pipeline across target segments using our CRM/AMS (Applied Epic) and sales enablement tools, creating sales reports and projections
  • Own the full sales cycle: outreach, discovery, risk assessment presentation, proposal, negotiation, and close
  • Cross-sell and upsell across Players Health's suite of insurance products and risk management services
  • Continuously develop advanced product and market knowledge - knowing the competitive landscape, understanding coverage nuances, and using that expertise to differentiate Players Health in every conversation
  • Meet and consistently exceed structured KPI targets and revenue quotas - every quarter

Client Relationships & Retention

  • Establish deep, trusted relationships with sports administrators, risk managers, and organizational decision-makers to identify meaningful ways to improve the safety of their organization and athletes
  • Educate clients and prospects on insurance, risk management, and athlete safety - positioning Players Health as a long-term partner, not a transactional vendor
  • Provide excellent ongoing service through responsiveness, accuracy, and proactive communication
  • Maximize renewals and retention through consistent client engagement and a high standard of follow-through
  • Communicate cross-functionally to ensure service, programs, and operations teams can execute for your clients
  • Own the full client lifecycle - including the issuance of new policies, managing policy changes, and managing cancellations with the same attention you bring to closing new business
  • Review insurance applications for completeness and accuracy - this role owns what it sells, and getting the details right is part of delivering on our promise to clients

Process & Systems Discipline

  • Accurately maintain all prospect, client, and deal activity in our AMS and internal systems - without exception and without being asked twice. Understanding this discipline is the backbone of a successful sales strategy, and it directly translates to correct billing, seamless renewals, and clients who trust us.
  • Follow our established sales playbook while actively identifying and flagging opportunities where processes can be improved
  • Participate in weekly AI-powered pitch practice - a focused 30-minute session designed to sharpen your selling skills, refine your messaging, and share what's working across the team; the risk advisors who invest in this get better, faster
  • Leverage The Institutes Knowledge Group platform and internally hosted Learning Labs to continue building insurance expertise and professional credibility

Team & Mission Contribution

  • Contribute to a team-oriented sales culture - sharing what's working, supporting fellow risk advisors, and understanding that a rising tide lifts all boats; individual results matter here, but so does how you show up for the team. (i.e. sharing best practices and what's working - from qualifying a lead, completing accord and supplementation applications, proposals, and binding insurance deals)
  • Partner with Marketing, Account Management, and utilize internal tools to create market-facing content and campaigns that drive pipeline
  • Contribute to building a sales culture that is high-accountability, collaborative, and mission-driven
  • Embody Players Health core values in every client interaction, team conversation, and decision
  • Some travel required for client/prospect visits, team events, industry conferences, or collaboration
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of commercial insurance sales experience with a demonstrated track record of growing a book of business OR 5+ years sales experience with demonstrated track record of growing a book of business
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance license, in good standing
  • Demonstrated success in a quota-carrying, high-activity sales role with clear, measurable results
  • Working knowledge of General Liability (GL) lines and commercial insurance products
  • Prior experience developing and executing a sales strategy to consistently meet or exceed targets
  • Proficiency with agency CRM/AMS (Applied Epic, preferred), or comparable sales and customer management platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal presence and negotiation ability
  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to adapt - comfortable in fast-paced, high-change environments
  • Demonstrated ability to follow process and procedures, and to identify where improvements should be made
  • Organizational discipline and strong attention to detail, including a genuine commitment to accurate and timely data entry
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity - motivated by contributing to solutions, not just working around problems
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Desired Characteristics

Sports Insurance Experience & Relationships

  • 7+ years of insurance industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Sales, or a related field
  • Experience selling insurance specifically to sports organizations - clubs, leagues, associations, or national governing bodies - and existing relationships within the space
  • Familiarity with the youth and/or amateur sports landscape as a professional, former athlete, coach, administrator, or volunteer
  • Strong, current understanding of the youth and amateur sports risk environment, including trends in GL, participant accident, and abuse and molestation coverage
  • Understanding of the risk environment specific to sports organizations, including GL, participant accident, and abuse and molestation coverage

Builder & Growth Mindset

  • Prior experience in a high-growth startup or scaling organization - you know what it looks like when a company is building the plane while flying it, and you're energized by it
  • Comfort identifying gaps in process or workflow and taking initiative to improve them - not just flagging them
  • Track record of consistent performance in environments where not everything is handed to you
  • History of contributing to team culture, playbook development, or sales process improvement beyond your individual quota

People & Communication

  • Strong emotional intelligence - you build trust quickly, listen well, and read the room in a prospect conversation
  • Collaborative by nature - you want to make the people around you better and see team success as part of your own

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel occasionally for team events, collaboration, or conferences
  • Must have a dedicated, safe, and secure remote work environment
  • Must have the ability to work and be productive in a remote setting
  • Exceptionally self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
  • Proactive communicator across email, verbal, and instant messaging
  • Willingness to attend virtual meetings, primarily with camera on (we value connection and culture)
  • Located in or willing to work Central or Eastern Time Zone
  • Must be 18 years or older and work location must be in the United States
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Players Health is committed to building a diverse and inclusive work environment. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity, national origin or ancestry, age, citizenship, disability, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other basis protected by applicable law.
