What is a remote solutions engineer?

A Remote Solutions Engineer is a technical professional who helps customers understand, implement, and optimize a company's products or services, typically in a pre-sales or post-sales capacity. They work remotely to assess client needs, provide technical demonstrations, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with sales and engineering teams. Their role often requires a mix of technical expertise, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to ensure customer success.

What are the primary responsibilities of a remote solutions engineer on a daily basis?

A Remote Solutions Engineer typically spends their days designing technical solutions, troubleshooting client issues, and collaborating with both internal teams and clients via video calls, chat, or emails. Responsibilities often include gathering requirements, developing and implementing architectures, supporting technical pre-sales processes, and providing ongoing support and optimization for deployed solutions. Because the role is remote, strong self-management and proactive communication are essential, and most interaction happens in a virtual team environment. This allows for flexibility, but also requires a high degree of autonomy and accountability to ensure project milestones and customer satisfaction are consistently achieved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote solutions engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solutions Engineer, you need strong technical expertise in IT systems, software development, and solutions architecture, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), networking tools, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Network+ are highly valued. Exceptional communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects independently are crucial soft skills for this remote role. These competencies ensure you can effectively design, implement, and support tailored solutions for clients while collaborating with distributed teams and meeting business objectives.

Job description

About MacStadium
MacStadium is the leading provider of enterprise-class Apple Mac infrastructure. Our Orka platform enables developers and DevOps teams to orchestrate macOS and Apple silicon in the cloud for CI/CD, testing, and development at scale. We serve some of the world's largest companies and are investing heavily in our platform for the future.
We are a remote-first company with a global team. We value autonomy, curiosity, and a bias toward action. If you want to have outsized impact on a small team building the future of Apple cloud infrastructure, we would love to hear from you.
About the Role
As a Manager of Solution Delivery, you are the facilitator of quality for our customer journey. Reporting to the CRO, you will ensure that the innovative solutions designed by our Pre-Sales team are executed with precision, delivered in a timely manner, documented for longevity, and transitioned to Support with zero friction. You will be coordinating and leveraging our service delivery and engineering organizations to execute production environments. You are the linchpin for turning a deal that is 'Closed-Won' into a 'Life-Long Customer.' Role & Responsibilities
  • Own solution process from post-deal-close to first revenue
  • Be accountable (but not responsible) for driving solution outcomes
  • Manage and organize customer-facing and internal coordination related to delivery & implementation
What We Are Looking For
Must-Have Experience:

  • Post-Sales Implementation Expertise: Proven track record of taking complex, multi-stakeholder technical projects from signature to "Go-Live."
  • Technical Integrity: The ability to act as a technical gatekeeper within the sales org, ensuring we deliver what we can really build and support.
  • Customer-Facing Project Management: High "Expert Presence." You can walk a customer through a deployment or a technical challenge without losing their trust.
  • Infrastructure Proficiency: Understanding of cloud services and solutions as well as quickly gaining familiarity with products and services used to deliver our solutions. Be able to translate into actionable deliverables.
  • Documentation Management: The ability to translate "Sales Engineering notes" and POC environments into documented, deliverable, and repeatable Customer Solutions Artifacts.
  • Basic understanding of networking.
  • Basic understanding of cloud computing.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working in technical organizations (CS, implementation, solutions engineering).
  • Customer-facing experience.
Preferred:
  • CI/CD experience
  • Cloud service provider experience
  • Familiarity with Apple or Mac in a business setting
  • Project management certificates or comparable experience

Compensation Range: $80,000 - $100,000

We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. MacStadium may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.
