Job Title: Employee Relations Specialist

Industry: Nonprofit / Human Resources

Location (City, State): New York, NY

Assignment Type: Contract

Pay: $20.00-$27.00/hour

Work Schedule: Part-time | 15-20 hours per week | Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

About The Company:

Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking an Employee Relations Specialist to provide additional support to its Human Resources team. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who is passionate about employee relations, compliance, and fostering a positive workplace culture while gaining hands-on experience across multiple HR functions.

Job Description:

The Employee Relations Specialist will partner with the Human Resources team to support employee relations initiatives, workplace investigations, compliance tracking, performance management, and HR documentation. This role requires a highly organized professional who can balance empathy with professionalism while ensuring HR processes remain compliant, consistent, and well-documented.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with employee relations matters by gathering information, documenting findings, and supporting workplace investigations.
  • Prepare coaching documents, corrective action notices, performance documentation, and other HR correspondence.
  • Track employee relations cases and follow up with managers to ensure timely completion of action items.
  • Support attendance management and monitor ongoing employee relations concerns.
  • Assist with unemployment claims, employee separations, and offboarding documentation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and case documentation within the HRIS.
  • Monitor completion of required policy acknowledgments, compliance trainings, and mandatory certifications.
  • Assist with workplace accommodation documentation and related administrative processes.
  • Support performance review cycles by monitoring completion rates, auditing documentation, and following up with managers and employees.
  • Assist with employee engagement initiatives, including survey administration, reporting, and participation tracking.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of employee relations or Human Resources experience.
  • Experience in Human Resources Assistant, Human Resources Coordinator, Human Resources Associate, or similar HR support roles.
  • Experience working within a nonprofit organization is preferred.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms such as Dayforce or Workday preferred.
  • Experience using applicant tracking systems (ATS) and payroll systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to navigate sensitive employee situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Ability to manage confidential information while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
