Job description

Product Development Intern - Lab Testing (Lifecycle / Reliability)

Summary: Cohu is seeking a hands-on Product Development Intern to support lifecycle and reliability testing in a small, fast-paced lab environment. This role focuses on executing test plans, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting product development teams in validating new technologies and designs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to (other duties may be assigned):

             Execute lifecycle and reliability test plans on electromechanical and/or test hardware systems

             Set up and operate lab equipment (test fixtures, load frames, environmental chambers, etc.)

             Record, track, and organize test data and observations with high accuracy

             Assist in troubleshooting test setups and identifying failure modes or anomalies

             Support Development Engineers with test builds, sample preparation, and basic fabrication/assembly

             Maintain lab organization, equipment calibration logs, and safety compliance

             Generate clear test summaries and reports for engineering review

             Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product validation and iteration cycles

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured test procedures
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, electronics, or materials behavior
  • Proficiency with Excel or similar tools for data logging and analysis
  • Ability to work independently and in a hands-on lab environment
