What are Process Improvement Associates?

Process Improvement Associates are professionals who analyze and optimize business processes within an organization to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality. They collect data, identify areas for improvement, and collaborate with various teams to implement changes. These associates often use methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to guide their efforts. Their goal is to streamline operations and support the organization's strategic objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by Process Improvement Associates when implementing new procedures?

Process Improvement Associates often encounter resistance to change from team members who are accustomed to existing workflows. Building consensus and clearly communicating the benefits of proposed improvements is essential to gaining buy-in. Additionally, balancing multiple projects and ensuring that process changes align with organizational objectives can be challenging. Successful associates typically collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to gather feedback, address concerns, and monitor the effectiveness of implemented solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Improvement Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Improvement Associate, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of process mapping methodologies, and a relevant degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and process management software like Microsoft Visio or Minitab is commonly required, and certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt are often preferred. Outstanding communication, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative mindset help individuals stand out in this role. These skills enable effective identification and implementation of process enhancements, driving efficiency and value within organizations.

Job description

Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring an Associate, Process Optimization to join our Member Provider Service Optimization team.
Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves-one that behaves like a doctor in the family.
About the role:
You will work with business and technical stakeholders to solve operational problems, improve internal workflows, and represent service-delivery needs in company-wide projects. You will support the design, optimization, and implementation of processes to guide efficiency, reduce member/provider friction, and support technology modernization. This requires conducting root-cause analysis, documenting requirements, building project plans, analyzing performance metrics, and managing change across multiple projects simultaneously.
You will report into the Product Implementation Manager.
Work Location: This is a remote position, open to candidates who reside in: Dallas, Texas. You will be fully remote; however, our approach to work may adapt over time. Future models could potentially involve a hybrid presence at the hub office associated with your metro area. #LI-Remote
Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $84,240 - $101,565 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the end-to-end management of operational improvements and workflow optimization projects, driving collaboration, seamless adoption and completion.
  • Improve readiness for strategic implementations and technology launches by developing training materials, creating clear communications, and updating internal knowledge management repositories to minimize colleague friction.
  • Partner with business owners to implement scalable procedural countermeasures that eliminate immediate process breaks and replace manual workarounds.
  • Mentor team members and promote colleagues' growth
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of work experience in Health insurance, Health System, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience with end-to-end project management
  • 2+ years of experience designing and improving workflows and standing up accompanying operating and technical procedures
  • A bachelor's degree or 3+ years commensurate experience

Bonus points:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or other related field
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher
  • 2+ years of experience using data software such as Excel, SQL, Python or other data analytics tools
  • 1+ years of experience using AI tools to guide process optimization, task automation, or analytical insights.
