This is the online Experience & Education (E&E) claim for the 2026 Pittsfield Police Captain Sole Assessment Center with E&E scheduled for June 24, 2026. There is no separate fee for filing this claim. Only eligible candidates who have already submitted an application and payment to participate in the 2026 Pittsfield Police Captain Sole Assessment Center with E&E scheduled for June 24, 2026, must complete this online claim.
E&E Examination Weights: E&E is made up of three categories and weighted 54% Experience, 22% Training, 24% Education.
General Instructions: The E&E examination component asks a series of questions about a candidate's employment, supervisory experience, trainings, and education. The E&E guide contains instructions and examples on how to fill out the E&E application. Please refer to the Police Promotional E&E Guide for complete instructions and examples of how to fill out the online E&E Claim. The guide is available on the Human Resources Division (HRD) Civil Service website at
Preparing & Saving Your Claim: Candidates will be able to log in, complete, and submit your online E&E claim up to the statutory deadline of July 1, 2026. Please be aware that once it is submitted, you will not be able to alter your online E&E Claim. After submission, your online E&E Claim will be saved in your online account, and you will have access to download or print a copy at any time. Written requests for modification of a submitted claim must be emailed to on or before the deadline date July 1, 2026, and will be added to your record for this examination component.

Appeal Rights: Once you receive your examination score, you will have 17 calendar days from the emailing of your score to file an appeal of the scoring of your online E&E claim by statute. No new type of credit can be claimed once you submit your online E&E claim.
Claim Audits: After submission of your E&E claim AND during the life of the resulting eligible list, HRD reserves the right to conduct an audit of your E&E claim. Be prepared to provide copies of all supporting documentation submitted as part of this examination component to HRD or the appointing authority upon request.
Note: An explanatory reference guide with point allocations will be made available when exam scores are released.

If you are qualified for both the Veteran's Preference and the Promotional Preference for 25 years of service, please be advised that 2.0 points are the maximum allowable number of points to be added to your passing, overall (general average) examination score, and you should not claim Promotional Preference Points in this question. Verifying Experience Claims: Supporting documentation must be provided in the form of a dated letter, signed by the appointing authority or your employer (past or present), identifying the position title, type of job responsibilities, dates (MM/DD/YYYY) of experience, whether the experience was full or part-time and other pertinent information concerning your experience. If the experience was less than full-time, the verification must include the actual time worked, e.g., number of hours per week or the specific number of HOURS worked within a defined time period. All part-time experience applying to each category on the Employment Verification Form or letter from the appointing authority must be totaled by number of HOURS in each category or it will not be credited. Totaling part-time experience in SHIFTS or as number of hours per week will not be credited. Letters of verification must be on original, official letterhead or stationery, with original signature of the appointing authority or their designee an original signature. Supporting documentation may be submitted on-line through the E&E claim application or emailed to civilservice@mass.gov by 11:59pm on July 1, 2026. Applicants must submit work verification from all employers the applicant is claiming experience. (Note: Resumes are not considered acceptable work verification) Outside Experience: Service performed in other departments prior to transferring to the current, specified department, may be claimed only in experience outside your department and be credited only upon having met the criteria. For non-police positions in a private company, public organization, or a non-profit, a signed "outside supervisor" form must be provided.Breaks in Service: HRD will only grant credit for work experience for time spent actually working within a department. Time spent away from actually working will count towards E&E credit for up to 180 consecutive calendar days. HRD will not grant E&E credit for any time spent away from actually working (leaves or absences) in excess of 180 consecutive calendar days. For leaves or absences of more than 180 consecutive calendar days, only the first 180 consecutive calendar days will count towards E&E. No Double Counting: Do not claim work experience that occurred concurrently in more than one category. Any acting, provisional and/or temporary time submitted will be deducted from the next lower rank.Rounding:* Round experience to the nearest year. Round up to the next full year if your experience is 180 days or more beyond the last full year and round down to the previous full year if your experience is less than 180 days beyond the last full year (ex.
