Cornerstone Search Group has been retained by a high-profile, well-funded, public biotech with a multi-asset, late-stage pipeline for their newly created Chief Legal Officer (CLO) role. Our client is focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing transformative therapies across a range of related rare and non-rare disorders that have long lacked meaningful treatment innovations. They have built a range of first-in-class pipeline assets that utilize multiple modalities. They are now looking for an experienced, well-rounded legal professional to work closely with their highly personable CEO to guide the company through its next stage of growth - regulatory approval (FDA and global) and commercialization. Our client is looking for a legal executive that thrives in a smaller company environment โ€“ someone that has strong emotional intelligence, is highly collaborative, and can build an innovative legal and compliance organization.

Highly Attractive Features:

  • Leadership Team: This leadership team has very strong relevant therapeutic area experience with successful biotechs and pharmas.
  • Well-funded: While many pre-commercial biotechs still struggle with funding, our client has raised significant capital due to leadershipโ€™s successful track record and the companyโ€™s exciting multi-asset pipeline addressing a range of related disorders with significant unmet need.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide executive-level legal leadership, strategy, and compliance oversight across all functional areas, from R&D to Commercial and everything in between.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships to ensure legal alignment with business goals.
  • Function as the principal legal advisor to the CEO, executive leadership, and Board of Directors on U.S. and international (e.g., EU / Asia / Middle East) legal matters, supporting R&D collaborations, regulatory pathways, and future commercialization endeavors.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, including FDA regulations specific to both BLA and NDA products.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks across all areas of the business, including litigation, intellectual property protection, and contractual obligations.

Desired Skills/ Qualifications / Experiences / Behaviors:

  • JD
  • 12+ years of relevant experience including in-house legal leadership experience for a late-stage biotech and/or smaller commercial-stage biotech
  • In-depth knowledge of US law and FDA regulations, including experience preparing for NDA/BLA approval
  • Experience with commercial launch in the US. Ex-US launch experience is a plus.
  • Experience with research technology collaborations is a plus
  • Experience across a range of relevant legal domains: IP, Contracts, Compliance, Regulatory, BD, etc.
  • High EQ
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and business acumen.
