Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule patients for urgent or elective surgical procedures across multiple facilities.
  • Postings: Ensure accurate and timely communication of surgical postings to relevant facilities.
  • Medical History Review: Obtain and review patients' medical histories to determine necessary pre-operative exams.
  • Surgical Packets: Prepare and send surgical packets with all required information and orders to patients.
  • Insurance Coordination: Verify patient benefits and secure authorizations for scheduled procedures.
  • Payment Collection: Collect copays, co-insurance, and deductibles for physician fees.
  • Pre-operative Exams: Obtain results and clearances from primary care providers and specialists, and send these to the appropriate PACU nurses.
  • Surgery Coordination: Confirm arrival times and schedule post-operative appointments.
  • Third-party Communication: Send patient information to third-party providers, such as physical therapists.
  • Documentation: Scan operative notes and enter surgery dates into the office EMR system.
  • Secretary: Function as the personal secretary to an orthopaedic surgeon, manage his/her schedule, other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: 2-3 years of surgical coordinating experience required; orthopedic experience preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency with standard office equipment and software (Word & Excel). Exemplary organizational skills, willingness to be cross-trained, and ability to fill in for other staff members.
