The Operations Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the safe and efficient daily operations of the facilities. As a leader, the Operations Manager sets the culture and leads the operators in a manner that prioritizes health, safety, and environmental responsibility, in line with the corporate vision, mission, and values. With strong technical knowledge of the facilities, the Operations Manager is responsible for training, supervising, and coaching their team. They monitor the overall daily effectiveness of the facilities and ensure compliance with company procedures and practices. The Operations Manager maintains effective communication with the General Manager to ensure alignment, operational excellence, and the dissemination of critical information.


The metals management team is dynamic, adaptive, and committed to continuous improvement, consistently delivering top-tier customer service and finding innovative solutions to meet evolving needs.


The role of Operations Manager is structured as a full-time position, working 5 days a week, 40-hours, with the potential for overtime depending on role requirements and deadlines.

This position is located in Red Deer, AB.  


  • Operational Management: Oversee the efficient, safe, and compliant daily operations of Red Deer Metals Recycling facility, including collection, transportation and classifying metals, while optimizing resource utilization and minimizing waste.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team, providing guidance, training, ad hoc support as needed to ensure effective, safe performance, while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Customer Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities, address inquiries and concerns promptly, and collaborate with sales and marketing to identify business expansion and retention opportunities.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, analyze financial performance to identify cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities, and ensure operations stay within budget while maximizing profitability.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Implement quality assurance programs, conduct regular inspections and audits for compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, and obtain necessary permits and licenses for waste management operations.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic plans, identify industry trends and opportunities, and collaborate with senior management on long-term growth and sustainability strategies.
  • Health, Safety and Environmental Management: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations by promoting a safety culture, implementing safety protocols and training, and monitoring and reducing environmental impact of operations.
  • Reporting and Communication: Prepare and present reports on operational performance and financial metrics, communicate updates to senior management and stakeholders, and participate in industry events to stay informed on trends and developments.

  • Grade 12 or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • University Degree or Trade School Certification will be considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • A minimum of 5 years’ management experience, leading large teams
  • Experience with Metal Recycling preferred
  • Valid industry safety tickets
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and guidance to staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prepare technical reports
  • Proficient with company applications and Microsoft Office Suite
