Camp Operations Assistant

Bretton Woods Recreation Center is seeking a Camp Operations Assistant for the Adventure Department. This is a great opportunity to be a part of an organization that believes our team members are our most important resource and therefore takes great pride in selecting individuals that help us to achieve our mission.

The Logistics Specialist will primarily support summer camp operations in addition to other work opportunities during Spring, Fall and weekends as agreed upon. This role is pivotal in the facilitation of engaging and impactful outdoor education and youth camp programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic and ability to problem solve, comfort in maneuvering vehicles and trailers, a passion for working outdoors, and willingness to learn new skills. The Logistics Specialist will ensure the safety of all participants and report any concerns, illness, or injuries to the appropriate authority.

Reports to: Director of Team Building and Outdoor Education

Supervises: None

Essential Functions

  • Transport watercraft trailers (kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and tubes) to and from designated locations throughout the camp season.
  • Ensure all groups are properly outfitted with required safety gear and assist counselors with the safe loading and unloading of watercraft.
  • Maintain and oversee program equipment, ensuring all gear is safe, functional, and ready for use; assist with repairs as needed.
  • Collect and distribute camp lunches and water daily, verifying dietary restrictions and allergy-specific meals.
  • Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure timely lunch delivery, proper food disposal, and accurate inventory of supplies
  • Lead and instruct participants in a variety of outdoor and adventure-based activities, including high and low ropes elements, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
  • Create a positive, inclusive environment that promotes collaboration, respect, and mutual support among participants.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support overall program operations.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from BWRC
  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Ability to transport and handle watercraft trailers and equipment
  • Comfort working outdoors in a physically active role.
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, outdoor and water-based activities.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures and use of safety gear.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment safely.
  • Attention to detail, especially regarding equipment and dietary needs.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to follow direction.
  • Availability for the full camp season.
  • Must have a positive attitude and report to work on time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in facilitating outdoor education and team-building programs, preferably in educational, recreational, or corporate settings.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (training provided if needed)
  • Experience with challenge course facilitation and adventure-based learning (or willing to learn)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work, walk and stand outside in hot, humid weather for extended periods of time
  • Continuous repetitive motions including bending, crouching, squatting, lifting, and carrying.
  • Comfortable in personal watercraft (tube, canoe, stand-up paddle board, and kayak).
