Job description

The Wilma and Peter Veldman Family Psychology Clinic at the University of Notre Dame is seeking a team of on-call Receptionists to join our dynamic and mission-driven team. As the public face of the Clinic, often during the late afternoon and early evening, the receptionist will provide a welcoming presence for the families who join us.

About the Clinic

The Veldman Family Psychology Clinic is Notre Dame’s premier institute for clinical science, training, and community mental health. As part of the College of Arts & Letters, the clinic brings together faculty, staff, and students who are pioneering innovative research, delivering exceptional care, and preparing the next generation of mental health professionals. Our work is deeply grounded in the University’s mission to be a force for good —with a particular focus on expanding access to evidence-based, high-quality mental health services for underserved populations.

Position Overview

The On-Call Receptionist is an on-call role that provides a welcoming reception and light administrative support to the Director, faculty, and staff of the Veldman Family Psychology Clinic. This role ensures the smooth day-to-day operations of the clinic during times that our regular receptionists are not available, typically in the late afternoon and early evening hours. We are looking for individuals who can create a welcoming, organized, and professional environment for visitors, faculty, students, staff, clients, and research participants.

We are looking to hire 2–3 individuals for this position. Hours will vary based on clinic needs and receptionist availability, but team members can expect to work approximately 5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Greeting clients, visitors, and community partners with warmth and professionalism
  • Managing phone and email inquiries with sensitivity and confidentiality
  • Monitoring facility maintenance, safety protocols, and building access
  • Assisting with special projects and events that bring together faculty, students, and the community

This position is central to the clinic’s mission—helping ensure that each person who enters feels seen, supported, and valued.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is:

  • Compassionate and approachable , with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from all walks of life
  • Professional and calm under pressure , able to maintain poise and empathy in fast-paced or sensitive situations
  • Collaborative and adaptable , eager to contribute to a growing team and evolving clinic environment

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with people, thrives in a mission-driven academic setting, and finds satisfaction in helping to keep a complex organization running smoothly.
