What is an on call banquet?

On Call Banquet staff are hospitality professionals who work events such as weddings, conferences, and parties on an as-needed basis. They assist with setting up event spaces, serving food and beverages, and ensuring guests have a positive experience. Their schedules vary depending on the needs of the venue or catering company, making this a flexible job ideal for those seeking part-time or supplementary work. On Call Banquet staff must have good customer service skills and be able to work well under pressure during busy events.

What does an on call banquet do?

As an On Call Banquet staff member, your shifts are typically scheduled based on the needs of the venue and the timing of events, which often means working evenings, weekends, or holidays. You may be contacted with short notice to fill in for events, so flexibility is important. During a typical shift, you'll help set up event spaces, serve food and beverages, attend to guest needs, and assist with cleanup. Teamwork is essential, as you'll coordinate closely with other banquet staff and event coordinators to ensure a seamless guest experience.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an on call banquet?

To thrive as an On Call Banquet Server, you need strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and basic food safety knowledge, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, banquet event orders (BEOs), and sometimes a food handler’s certification is typically required. Outstanding teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication help servers stand out in dynamic event environments. These skills are crucial for ensuring seamless event execution, guest satisfaction, and efficient coordination with kitchen and event staff.
