About the Job
 

Literature Review and Research Support (50%)

  • Conduct title/abstract and full-text screening of scholarly articles using Covidence under supervision of the research team
  • Extract relevant study information using standardized data abstraction tools
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of screening decisions and extracted data
  • Participate in quality assurance checks to ensure consistency and accuracy of research data

Research Team Collaboration and Study Support (25%)

  • Attend regular research team meetings to discuss study progress, review screening discrepancies, and participate in consensus decision-making
  • Communicate with research team members regarding project tasks, timelines, and questions
  • Assist with project organization and documentation as needed

Evidence Synthesis and Scholarly Support (25%)

  • Assist in summarizing findings from included studies using narrative synthesis methods
  • Support preparation of tables, summaries, and research materials for manuscripts, presentations, or reports
  • Contribute to dissemination planning for academic and community audiences, including materials relevant to Hmong community stakeholders
Qualifications
 

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered as an undergraduate student or recent undergraduate graduate in public health, biology, pre-med, sociology, psychology, health sciences, or related field
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in health disparities, cancer prevention, community health, or health equity research
  • Ability to commit to 20 hours per week for the 10-week internship period

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior coursework or experience in public health, epidemiology, health disparities, or social sciences research
  • Familiarity with literature reviews, evidence synthesis, or academic research methods
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or reference management tools
  • Experience with Covidence or systematic/scoping review methods (preferred but not required)
  • Interest in working with diverse communities and addressing health inequities
About the Department
 

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 50 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Since then, we have been leaders in transforming the specialty through education, research, and patient care. We are the academic sponsor of seven family medicine residenciesfive in the Twin Cities, two in Greater Minnesota. We are involved in medical student education activities across the Medical School's two campuses: Twin Cities and Duluth. We sponsor five fellowship programssports medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, clinical informatics, behavioral medicine, and human sexuality and offer continuing medical education opportunities. Pay Rate: $15.25 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
