Job description


Join our dynamic team in Boulder, CO, where innovation meets the majestic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. As a Design Technician, you will play a crucial role in designing and improving products that impact various industries.
Must Have:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Machine Safety and Ergonomic Standards
  • Mechanism design and development experience using CAD (Creo or SolidWorks preferred)
  • Practical experience in Sheet Metal Fabrication (Manual bending brake, shear, etc.)
  • Practical experience in the manufacture of complex instruments
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in the medical industry
  • Practical experience in Machining (Manual Mills, Lathes, etc.)
  • Validation and process development experience
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
  • Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing and field service operations.
  • Utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools, such as CAD, ProEngineer, Solidworks.
  • Gather information, conduct studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposals.
  • Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
Technician Support Career Stream
Provide technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Use schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulae and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes.

  • Autonomy: Recognized as an expert in the technical area, with a high degree of initiative, who trains, delegates, and reviews the work of lower-level employees and may be responsible for leading daily operations of a work unit. Ensures project plans and budgets are met and recommends improvements to test processes and procedures across teams.
  • Organizational Impact: Performs the most complex technical activities and identifies, evaluates, and implements continuous improvements to optimize work processes. Work consists of technical tasks of the highest complexity.
  • Innovation and Complexity: Technical problems faced are general and may require understanding of broader sets of issues and other job areas, but typically are not complex. Responsible for working with a supervisor to implement adjustments or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve the effectiveness of job areas and/or functions.
  • Communication and Influence: Communicates typically with internal contacts, including participating in benchmarking other business units. Obtains and provides technical information on matters of significant importance to one or more job areas.
  • Leadership and Talent Management: May act as a team leader or coach and assistant to the supervisor/manager. May delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work product and processes. Does not have formal management responsibilities, but provides input to people management decisions in this area.
