Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Village Tavern Salem is looking for an experienced Sous Chef. The Sous Chef oversees the daily food preparation and other places where food is served. They will direct kitchen staff and handle any food-related concerns.


Job Duties:

  • Check freshness of food and ingredients
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and other food preparation workers
  • Develop recipes and determine how to present the food
  • Plan menus and ensure uniform serving sizes and quality of meals
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas for cleanliness and functionality
  • Hire, train, and supervise cooks and other food preparation workers
  • Order and maintain inventory of food and supplies
  • inventory is done using the Orca Inventory System
  • Monitor sanitation practices and follow kitchen safety standards
  • 50 hrs a week minimum may increase to 60 during the busiest part of the season.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 2+ years experience
  • Food cost, Inventory control, menu design experience and labor control
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • TEAMWORK and a GREAT attitude are required!
  • Must have flexible availability – Weekends & Holidays required
  • Accurately and efficiently cook meats, fish, vegetables and other hot food products
  • Ability to keep work area clean, organized and to code
  • Previous high volume experience preferred
