Position Summary

 Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, and in the accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Membership Sales and Services Director is responsible for membership sales and service at the Charles River branch and will work closely with the Healthy Living Director to ensure membership retention. This individual handles all membership inquiries (phone, email, in person), trains and oversees all staff who handle membership inquiries, and establishes and leads a culture of excellent member service throughout the branch. 

Key Responsibilities

Key Functions/Responsibilities:


·       Hire, on-board, train, supervise, and evaluate Welcome Center staff 

·       Hire, on-board, train, supervise, and evaluate Childwatch Staff

·       Meet and exceed monthly and annual membership prospecting and sales goals

·       Adhere to systems that ensure consistent prospect and new member tracking and follow-up

·       Implement process for handling membership inquiries via phone and email.

·       Manage prospects through: leads, tours, walk-in’s, no joins, phone inquiries, referrals, corporate wellness partners, guest passes, terminations, and prospects from campaigns

·       Demonstrate consistent excellence in sales and new member materials, presentations, closing techniques, telephone and in-person service, and prospective member engagement

·       Ensure all new members receive Getting Started appointments.

·       Work closely with Healthy Living Director to provide Personal Training and Get Started appointments 15- 25% of work week 

·       Follow Listen 360 feedback and report results

·       Work with program directors to develop or enhance programs that meet the needs of groups of members

·       Assist in the planning and execution of special events and services such as Healthy Kids Day, Annual 4th of July Road Race, Annual Giving Gala, health fairs, open houses, media events, membership drives and the Annual Campaign

·       Role model strong fiscal stewardship by developing and managing the Membership Budget

·       Under the direction of the executive director, actively lead one area of the annual campaign to help achieve annual development goals

·       Utilizing Listen First skills, engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals

·       Participate in staff meetings, Board of Director meetings, and professional trainings as appropriate

·       Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Required Training/ Certifications:


·       Child Abuse Prevention (or within 30 days of employment) 

·       Respect in the Workplace (or within 30 days of employment)

·       Oxygen Administration, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

·       Others to be determined



Education/Experience: 




·       Bachelor’s degree required

·       At least three – five years’ experience in sales/marketing and/or the Health and Wellness field member services. 

·       Proven ability to establish and maintain favorable relationships required.
