Job description

Medical Records Assistant

This is a hybrid remote position, which means you will train on-site in Jamestown NY on a daily basis for up to 90 days and then transition to mostly remote work. While working remotely, you must reside in NY or PA.

Reports To: Administration Manager

Department: Medical Records

Location: Hybrid

Travel Required: <25%

Position Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Pay Information: $16 - $20 per hour

Summary:

Medical Records Assistant is responsible for managing patients' health records and history. Provide a complete and accurate description of the patient's medical history. Medical Records enhances the care and treatment our office provides.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and enters all ancillary tanks within the EMR on a daily basis into patient accounts per company policies.
  • Interacts with outside vendor personnel to obtain test results in a timely manner
  • Interdepartmental coordination to incorporate and obtaining necessary records into the EMR.
  • Works with outside third-party vendors to facilitate the release of patient records to appropriate parties upon request.
  • Requests patient records from Healthelink, Community Chart, and other outside agencies. These records are then entered into the EMR within the patient chart.
  • Participates and communicates in team meetings to identify and problem solve processes.
  • Prepares documents to be shredded and schedules pick up with the vendor.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred Skills:

  • No experience required.
  • Previous experience in healthcare or medical records preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • This position is primarily remote and requires a dedicated workspace with reliable high-speed internet.
  • Occasional travel to the medical office may be required for meetings, training, or other business needs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, computer work, data entry, and telephone use are required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements while working remotely.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of files or office supplies up to 15 pounds may be required.
